Job Description: 
Minimum Requirements:

Requires minimum BA or BS in Environmental Science or related field with a minimum of four years experience working within industry as a Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission (PFBC) approved timber rattlesnake biologist. Must be on the PFBC approved timber rattlesnake biologist list and must possess a PFBC Type III Scientific Collector's Permit, for the purpose of working on private-industry consulting projects, and be capable of amending the permit to include new projects and scopes of work.

The successful candidate should have a complete understanding of timber rattlesnake biology and life history, and be able to relate this information into the scope of the project construction monitoring for the purpose of capture and relocation of timber rattlesnakes. Technical skills and experience in the capture, handling, processing, and relocation of timber rattlesnakes is a must. Ability to collect pertinent information on the habitat and status of collected individuals. Ability to use a GPS unit for capture and relocation information. Must possess regulatory knowledge regarding rare, threatened, and endangered species (i.e., timber rattlesnake) programs (state and federal levels) and experience with the safe handling of timber rattlesnakes at construction sites. Requires previous experience with either oil or gas projects.

Must be proficient in computer programs (e.g., MS Excel, Word). Must have a positive attitude and the ability to work independently over difficult terrain and varying weather conditions.


Job Description:

This position will provide support for Marcellus Shale natural gas related construction projects/activities for multiple clients. Job duties include assisting in project scoping, meeting with clients and PFBC Qualified Timber Rattlesnake Biologists to determine critical areas to be monitored during the construction phase, working with the client and the client's contractors to create timber rattlesnake habital based upon PFBC guidelines, and capturing/relocation timber rattlesnakes through safe, hands-on-methodology.

Position will interact with both clients and Regulatory agencies such as the PFBC and PADEP. May be required to make professional presentations to client or agency representatives from time to time. Will also interact with multi-discipline and multi-office teams within URS.



This position will be part of the Ecological Group in the Environmental Services Group of the Pittsburgh, PA URS Office. The position will report to the Ecological Group Manager.
