The successful candidate will be part of a unique team that assists Edwards Air Force Base (AFB) in maintaining compliance with critical environmental regulations. Excellent communication skills, to include one-on-one customer interactions, as well as the ability to understand an organization's mission are critical to assisting Edwards AFB with their environmental compliance issues. The primary emphasis of the position will be to provide scientific and technical support to Edwards AFB Civil Engineering, Environmental Management, and Bioenvironmental Engineering organizations for drinking water and wastewater programs and the Environmental Restoration Program. As part of this team you will work with military, civilian, and contractor supported projects Each day you will work with a multi-discipline, highly interactive and coordinated team providing scientific support to clients. You should be a self-motivated professional with 10 years of experience in drinking water and wastewater regulatory requirements, have a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science or related field, and have a desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each project.

Our Environmental Scientist:


  • Participate in Water Integrated Process Team Meetings, Antelope Valley East Kern contract renewal meeting and the Antelope Valley Integrated Regional Water Management Plan and Salt Management Plan Meetings
  • Review and comment on the quarterly and annual monitoring reports for the Main Base and Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) wastewater treatment plants
  • Prepare spill reports and permit applications for surface discharges for submittal to the Lahontan Water Quality Control Board
  • Review and comment on annual oil/water separator data and Industrial Waste Discharge Permits
  • Manage the development of the Septic System Monitoring Plan and the Sewer System Management Plans for the Main Base and AFRL Systems
  • Prepare/revise Arsenic Blending Plan as required
  • Review/revise the Spill Prevention Countermeasures and Control Plan (SPCC) as needed
  • Review the Los Angeles County District 14 monitoring reports, and maintain the Piute Ponds database
  • Provide planning and programming support to environmental management
  • Conduct technical and economic evaluations on proposed compliance project requirements
  • Provide technical support in meetings with environmental regulatory agencies
  • Provide technical and operational support to the Edwards AFB Environmental Restoration Program as required.

    Basic Qualifications

  • BS degree in an Environmental Science related field; Hydrogeology or Geology preferred
  • Strong background in drinking water and wastewater regulatory requirements, with a minimum 10 years related experience
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of applications
  • Basic skills in populating data into, and generating reports out of, a database.
  • Good writing and speaking skills in order to communicate clearly.
  • Ability to produce high-quality written documentation.
  • This position requires US Citizenship, the ability to obtain a secret clearance, the ability to pass a mandatory pre-employment drug test, and have or be able to obtain a California drivers license.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in working on an active U.S. military installation.
  • Licensed wastewater operator, preferred
  • Masters Degree in a science related field preferred
