Minimum Requirements:
• High School diploma or GED
• Minimum of three years of experience in safety service patrol operations.
• Capable of lifting and carrying 50lbs for at least 50 yards
• Demonstrate leadership experience / aptitude
• Knowledgeable / experienced in Safety Service Patrol operations
• Capable of multi-tasking and working in a fast paced environment
• In-depth knowledge of Hampton Roads Interstate and local roadways
• Computer literate; Windows-based application experience
• Experience in radio and phone communications
• General knowledge of vehicle mechanics and repair
• Scheduling flexibility
• Virginia Drivers License in good standing
NOTE: This position is designated as essential and, as such, all duties associated with this job are required during emergency situations which may include but are not limited to inclement weather, disaster response and emergency operations. VDOT/Contract Management will determine when essential positions are required. Valid driver's license is required. DMV records check by the Department is required. Criminal History Records Check and Fingerprint check is required.
Job Description:
• Train, evaluate, and counsel assigned Safety Service Patrol shift personnel
• Responsible for readiness of assigned shift personnel and equipment
• Supervise and oversee Safety Service Patrol in the performance of their roadway patrol responsibilities
• Develop shift work schedule; assign shift responsibilities
• Responsible for safety and performance of assigned shift personnel
• Responsible for timeliness, completeness and accuracy of assigned shift administrative requirements
• Coordinate with the HRTOC Control Room Shift Supervisor to determine the nature and location of incidents, organize priorities and coordinate the appropriate response
• Provide motorist assistance, traffic control, and incident management assistance on assigned sector(s) of the Hampton Roads Interstate highway system
• Assist in the operation of the High Occupancy Vehicle Reversible Roadway under the direction of the Transportation Operations Center Control Room Shift Supervisor
• Effect appropriate removal of roadway debris
• Inspect, repair, re-supply, clean, and operate assigned vehicle in accordance with prescribed policies and standards
• Respond to dispatch calls as directed by the Transportation Operations Center Control Room
• Responsible for timeliness, completeness and accuracy of assigned administrative requirements
• Frequent communication via radio and telephone
• Provide appropriate situational/status reports to Transportation Operations Center Control Room personnel with respect to the nature and location of incidents, conditions, and response coordination
• Maintaining a thorough knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures and other applicable regulations. Performing necessary housekeeping duties to ensure clean and safe work area.
• Assist the Department Manager in assessing and ensuring proficiency of SSP Department personnel to established standards
• When requested by the VDOT, participate in Post Incident Analysis
• When requested by the VDOT, function as a member of Emergency Response Team
• Other duties as assigned by SSP Department Manager
