Minimum Requirements: Education, Registration, Certification: • High school diploma or equivalent Experience: • Minimum 5 years in related field technician position • A related two-year college degree may substitute for 2 years of the required experience • A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for 4 years of the required experience
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: • Fully qualified technician performing a variety of senior level tasks • Knowledgeable within all assigned areas • Thorough understanding of equipment and technology used to gather samples and information from the field • Ability to perform regular and often complex computations and calculations • General knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software • Exercises independent judgment
Physical Demands and Working Conditions: • Ability to perform bending, kneeling, standing, confined-space entry, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs. • Ability to climb ladders and have a tolerance for working in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions. • Ability to wear an air-purifying respirator as required by OSHA Standards. • Ability to wear supplied air and SCBAs as needed. • May require enrollment in the URS medical monitoring program requiring initial and annual physicals and initial and random drug screens. • Valid California driver's license with a good driving record and the ability to travel and drive regularly, often long distances. Job Description: Responsibilities: • Uses principles and theories of science and engineering to solve technical problems, work is more limited in scope and more practically oriented than that of scientists and engineers • Using prescribed methods, performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment • Gathers data and/or samples to be used in the preparation of scientific or engineering reports • Prepares or assists in the preparation of scientific, engineering or survey documents • Participates in environmental health and safety performance improvement efforts • Helps establish, track and drive improvement in health and safety standards including training, corrective actions, audits, and compliance • May inspect and maintain equipment for groundwater well purging or sampling • May inspect and maintain equipment for air, vapor, or water sample collection • May collect samples of gases and meteorological data to assist in evaluation of air pollutants • May collect water samples from streams and lakes, or raw, semi-processed or processed water, industrial waste water, or water from other sources to assess contamination • May collect soil, silt, or mud to determine chemical composition and any contamination • May be responsible for coordinating and transporting hazardous waste for disposal • Observes and tests work in progress to ensure conformity with engineering specifications • May inspect water and wastewater treatment systems to ensure proper operation and pollution control requirements are met • May troubleshoot and repair groundwater and soil vapor treatment systems, dedicated pumps in wells and related mechanical and electrical components. • May perform construction tasks including piping, concrete work, installation of treatment systems, operation of forklifts, and other related tasks • Prepares field logs, correspondence and data/progress reports • May work closely with client or Project Manager • Plans, implements and/or compiles sensitive field/ laboratory investigation and testing programs • Develops and implements project QC programs for field or laboratory • Recognizes problems and anticipates future requirements • May manage subcontractors to work safely, complying with the requirements of the scope of work Complexity & Decision Making Authority: • Performs routine tasks • Moderate supervision on repetitive tasks • Direct supervision on non-routine or complex tasks EOE M/F/D/V
