Minimum Requirements: BS or BA in planning, environmental science, public policy, preservation or related field.
Minimum 10 years' experience managing environmental permitting and/or NEPA compliance projects, with expertise in preparing documents. Must have recent direct experience as a project manager in the consulting field working on large/complex EA and/or EIS projects, have good organization skills, and strong technical/analytical writing skills.
Experience working directly with clients and regulatory agencies.
Must be able to mentor staff.
This position requires successful completion of the URS Project Management Certification program within 6 months of hire. Job Description: The Infrastructure and Environmental Division of URS is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Senior Environmental Planner for immediate employment in the Phoenix office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in Environmental Planning projects including managing large NEPA projects with a focus on but not limited to the power and mining sectors. This position includes both technical and business development responsibilities.
Incumbent Responsibilities:
Technical: • Recognized leader and authority in Environmental Planning. Extensive experience with the NEPA.
• The successful candidate will be a project manager and senior technical resource within the Environmental Planning Group.
• Day-to-day responsibilities will include independently managing project teams to complete permitting and environmental planning projects, particularly in the power and/or mining sector. This position requires managing the efforts of one or more project teams and providing overall technical guidance, fostering successful client relationships, managing project budgets and schedules, and assuring quality control of the project deliverables.
• The successful candidate will utilize and expand the NEPA practice in Arizona, New Mexico, and/or Nevada.
• The successful candidate will be working closely with the staff in URS' Phoenix and Albuquerque environmental planning group and may be asked to provide leadership on various pursuits or initiatives.
• This position will be considered a senior role within the AZ-NM-NV region with primary responsibility for managing projects and/or tasks on major projects.
Business Development: • Responsible for strategizing and preparing proposals for upcoming contracts in AZ, NV, and NM.
• Initiates and maintains extensive contacts with key subject matter experts and environmental managers within local, state and federal agencies.
• Actively involved in NEPA professional management organizations such as APA or NAEP.
• Consistently tracks and positions the firm for future procurements in the environmental planning industry.
• Established relationships with key environmental planning managers within local, state, and federal agencies in AZ, NV, and NM is preferred but not required.
