OFFICE LOCATION Southeastern Massachusetts (MA); may travel to Maine, (ME), New Hampshire (NH), New York (NY), and Pennsylvania (PA) ABOUT US The Nature Conservancy is the world’s leading conservation organization, working in all 50 states and more than 33 countries. TNC ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The Fire Stewardship Technician will conduct field work on both Conservancy and partner properties in Southeastern Massachusetts (Plymouth, Cape Cod and the Islands), and potentially throughout the Northeastern U.S. There will also be office duties at TNC field stations in Plymouth and on Martha’s Vineyard. Duties may include conducting safe wildland fire operations, contributing to management unit planning and mapping, fire break clearing, fire equipment maintenance and repair, participation in fuel reduction and FIREWISE projects, vegetation and rare species monitoring, and fuel-load sampling. The Fire Stewardship Technician will be responsible for working with hand tools, pumps, chainsaws, type six, type seven, and type three engines, trailers, tractor and skid-steer, mower decks and forestry attachments, GPS devices, GIS, digital cameras, and word processing and spreadsheet software. AUTO SAFETY POLICY This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with the Conservancy's Auto Safety Program. Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned/leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered "high risk drivers." Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee's motor vehicle record.
