Advertising Age magazine recently named Tesla one of America's "hottest brands." Tesla is currently seeking Quality Engineer- Powertrain Manufacturing to join our team in Palo Alto, CA. Position Description: The Quality Engineer is an integral part of the Powertrain Manufacturing organization and will ensure that all products meet customer and company requirements. He/she is responsible for developing quality processes and methodologies, including quality/control plans and ensure products meet their specification. The Quality Engineer is responsible for driving continual product and process improvement. The Quality Engineer will work with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Operations to address and improve quality/reliability and manufacturability issues. Work will require participation in cross-functional teams. This is a very hands-on individual contributor role with duties focused primarily in support of on-floor activities. To be effective, the Quality Engineer will need to be intimately familiar with the detailed behavior of these electro-mechanical assemblies and the tools and equipment used in their manufacture. Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Work closely with manufacturing and suppliers to establish processes and procedures that will ensure consistent high quality. Establish and maintain product quality plans and control plans. Establish quality performance metrics and drive issues to root cause solutions. Work with Manufacturing Engineering to determine product specifications and tolerances. Audit manufacturing line against released manufacturing processes and procedures. Assist in the identification and resolution of manufacturing quality issues. Monitor quality, determine root cause of problems, and implement corrective actions and countermeasures. Process and implement Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s) as required. Participate in continuous improvement activities, with manufacturing and external suppliers. Work with Supply Quality Engineering and Suppliers to develop specifications that support production requirements. Take part in ongoing optimization of the products with respect to both cost and production technology. Drive FMEA activities to ensure design and manufacturing issues are identified and risks mitigated. Provide Design for Manufacturability feedback to Engineering as well as participate in DFM reviews. Analyze and disposition component and product defects as member of the Material Review Board Analyze and interpret data independently. Anticipate potential problems and take preventative action Qualifications/Skills: Bachelor’s degree in ME or EE or similar fields required. 5 to 10 years experience of quality systems experience in a manufacturing environment (automotive preferred). Experienced in QS-9000, ISO/TS 16949, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, DFMEA, PFMEA required. Strong aptitude with electronic test and measurements systems. Proficiency at reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and wiring diagrams. Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Detail oriented with strong record-keeping and organizational skills. Ability to use technological tools and business system applications to manage, synthesize, and interpret data. Ability to operate relevant personal computing hardware and standard software. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing practices, 5S, TPS, TQM, etc highly desired. |
