AECOM seeks a mid- to senior-level biologist to join its office in Bakersfield or Fresno, California. The successful candidate will be an integral part of AECOM’s expanding biological resources practice, and must have an interest in working on challenging, complex, and diverse projects located throughout California. This position involves working with multidisciplinary teams to assist a diversity of public and private sector clients seeking regulatory approvals and permits, with an emphasis on transportation and energy projects located in the southern San Joaquin Valley.

Duties may include preparation of permit applications and consultation with agency staff as required under Sections 404 and 401 of the Clean Water Act, Sections 7 and 10 of the Endangered Species Act, Section 2081 of the California Endangered Species Act, and Section 1600 of the California Fish and Game Code; preparing or overseeing wetland delineations and biological inventories; conducting impact analysis for California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents; and performing construction/biological monitoring and oversight.  The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and communicating with clients and agency staff, gathering and compiling project and site information, managing subconsultants and project teams, preparing permit applications, and preparing associated documentation to comply with federal and state regulations.

Depending on years of relevant experience and demonstrated track record, the selected candidate will bring a strong orientation toward practice growth, business development, with strong experience leading and supporting project pursuits, strong client relationships, and a reputation for outstanding, cutting-edge biological resources work. The selected candidate will also bring a successful track record in hiring, managing, and mentoring staff, as this position would help grow the environmental practice in the San Joaquin Valley.

Skill Requirements
Candidates should have expertise and training in regulatory/permitting and relevant biological disciplines such as wetland ecology and natural resource management.  Knowledge related to special-status plant and wildlife species found in the southern San Joaquin Valley is required. Prior experience working on transportation and energy projects is desired.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

Experience Requirements
Education requirements include a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in biology, wildlife management, zoology, botany, or a related field and a minimum of 4 years of experience.
