Davis Langdon, An AECOM Company, is seeking an experienced and motivated MEP Estimator – Mechanical or Electrical biased.  This full-time position will be based in Seattle, WA.

 

The candidate will help support the present WA and West region MEP work-load requirements. They will be required to complete Estimating and Cost planning tasks during design as well as participate in GMP procurement and negotiations.   Post-construction audit and benchmarking is a plus.

 

The candidate will be expected to complete/have:

 

Position requirements:


Design Phase (Required)

 

· Develop detailed cost estimates from engineering drawings; proactively identify deficiencies and/or questions; and actively assist the project team toward the answers.  

· Actively reconcile estimates with those prepared by third-parties; engage the third-party entities in an informative, collaborative reconciliation; and communicate the results of the reconciliation effort.

· Have an understanding for the make-up of net-costs; including review of equipment/material prices, labor rates/ fringe benefits, appropriate productivity requirements, understanding for tools of the trade.

· Be willing to accumulate, evaluate and document historical cost data for the development of future estimates.

· Provide coordination and liaison with project management and project engineering personnel throughout the estimate development.   

 

Construction phase (desirable)

 

· Review contract documents and contract modifications to determine scope of work and cost allowances for scope changes.

· Review labor rates to ensure conformance to the contract requirements.

· Review labor productivity to ensure that the labor hours are in conformance with contract working restrictions, overtime is appropriate, etc.;

· Review quantities and ensure there is a fair and reasonable representation of additional scope, as well as possible credits; be aware of demolition required to accommodate changes within a completed schedule or costs associated with procured items within a developing schedule.

· Review pre-purchased material or equipment and/or equipment rental rates against fair and reasonable pricing references;

· Review contractor mark-ups to ensure that the correct mark-ups are being used and that any mark-up caps are not exceeded.

 

Post-Construction phase (desirable)

 

· Perform Audit of cost substantiations to determine “cost of work” contract compliance.

· Write and present reports on audit findings

· Negotiate with construction contractors in order to reclaim any unsubstantiated costs.


Professional Experience Level:

(Required)

· Five years + of general estimating and negotiation experience directly related to both engineering and/or construction projects required.   

· Demonstrated experience with all MEP elements is desirable. Biased for one trade is acceptable.

· Varied sector experience.

· Demonstrated experience with complex estimate reconciliations and change order negotiations.

· Demonstrated proficiency with differing estimating formats, including Uniformat II.

 

 

Job Qualifications:

(Desirable)

· Bachelors or higher degree

· Self-starter attitude with proven results-oriented focus.   

· Demonstrate a proactive, firm and respectful approach to estimate reconciliation efforts and change order processing.  

· Proficient with industry estimating databases and other estimating data sources, e.g. RS Means, Richardson’s, National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), etc.

· Demonstrated success on the job, as evidenced by satisfactory performance, acceptance of responsibility and growth in previous position.

· Effective oral and written communication skills.
