The Challenge? Help to meet the ever increasing global demand for energy. Our Mapping Design Lead position will offer you an exciting opportunity to help our clients provide a safe and reliable source of energy to heat homes, fuel automobiles, and move goods and services in support of millions of people worldwide. As a Mapping Piping Design, responsible for ensuring that drawings/sketches are in conformance to applicable standards and codes, as well as company policies and procedures. The incumbent has deep knowledge of multiple subject areas or disciplines; thorough understanding of business objectives, priorities and strategy for own area; and understands industry practices and competitors. This position uses communication and negotiation skills to guide, influence and convince others, and interacts with multiple departments, local offices or regions. The incumbent participates as an active member in local organizations and committees as well as participating in seminars, training activities and presentations.

Our Mapping Design Lead:

  • Use Autocad to create pipeline (or other linear utility) alignment sheets, detailed construction drawings, including detailed crossings for land and marine, exhibit and permit drawings
  • Excellent software skills: AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and/or Microstation
  • Expert in checking own work and coordinating work with related disciplines
  • Experience with discipline-specific 3D modeling tools
  • Works with clients, subcontractors, and team partners to resolve technical issues
  • Proficient with data integration across all disciplines
  • Proficient with data integration for cost estimation
  • Proficient with data use in support of construction schedule sequencing
  • Proficient with data integration in relation to the procurement system
  • Steward of data integration across the lifecycle of the project
  • Is recognized and valued by the business group as being an expert modeler/designer. Possesses expert design automation skills
  • Steward for discipline engineering and design concepts through continued communication with engineering staff and is recognized as a leader and trainer for discipline-specific tools
  • Is a leader for internal CAD users groups or and proactively participates in external CAD organizations
  • Takes responsibility for their portion of the discipline's scope, schedule and budget and delegates accordingly to junior staff. Continued demonstration of reliability and accountability for own work products. Continually exceeds deliverable deadlines
  • Ability to support work for/in other offices (including Temporary Duty- TDY)
  • Serves as a mentor to the project team, junior staff and junior engineers by assisting with finding answers to technical questions and concerns
  • Supports the continued improvement in firm's responsiveness and flexibility to clients, sub-consultants, and co-consultants
  • Experience in advancing workflows, systems and tools within their own discipline; embraces emerging technologies
  • Is open to and encourages new ideas from group
  • Willingness to work more than 40+ hrs per week
  • Orient new employees
  • Proponent of training staff and exploring new software
  • Update standards and procedures as necessary
  • Attends project meeting and takes on active role to help team resolve concerns and solve problems across all disciplines
  • Functions as a national resource for coordination of multiple-office projects providing innovative methods and procedures
  • Participates internal and external project reviews
  • Approve timesheets and evaluates performance of other employees

Basic Qualifications



  • Associates degree
  • Minimum 10 years experience, including experience as a lead designer preferred
  • In addition to mapping experience, candidates with mechanical design experience of pipeline facilities preferred but not required
