BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER, GOVERNMENT AND PUBLIC SECTOR - Anywhere, USA REQ ID 12139

Working together, we can find new ways to minimize waste, maximize efficiencies and uncover resource value all along the supply chain. We are also developing and refining capabilities that create little or no waste to begin with.


The Green Squad Business Development Manager (BDM) position is responsible for building and maintaining a national client base within the Government/Public Sector. This position requires working closely with Strategic Accounts, Group Sales VPs, Market Area VPs, Market Area Sales Directors and Segment Directors in the development of turnkey sustainability solutions for existing/potential WM customers. The primary focus is on generation of new account revenue using a consultative selling approach in the development of Green Squad Sustainability Services to accounts that result in maximizing value to WM as a whole.EXTENSIVE TRAVEL - Up to 75% travel may be required. This position can be located anywhere within the continental United States.


The BDM is responsible for revenue growth and strategic positioning of Green Squad services demonstrating maximum value to WM. Equally as important, The BDM is also responsible for supporting WM Sales groups in developing Sustainability Solution service offerings, assisting them in closing sales to achieve budgeted revenue growth, and yield goals. The BDM aids in the development of sustainability strategies that deliver environmental and business performance value to Waste Management internally, existing customers, and future prospects.


Duties include:


  • Develop effective lead generation strategies and tactics by engaging key WM and customer stakeholders. Perform follow up on leads and drive them through the sales process.

  • Effectively manage prospects by developing and maintaining sound business plans. Keep information in CRM system updated and accurate.

  • Communicate to and work with all WM Stakeholders and third parties to develop and resolve customer solutions and issues.

  • Maintain CRM sales pipeline to achieve goals for new and existing sales. Track new WM revenue, WM added value, and Green Squad direct revenue

  • Match Green Squad's services with customer needs by demonstrating knowledge of customers, pricing and competition; effectively communicate pricing and service strategies; proactively engage other Waste Management business opportunities, referring internally as appropriate.

  • Using in depth industry and company knowledge, prepare complex proposals and make recommendations consistent with Green Squad's service offerings, capabilities, and resources.

  • Propose customer solutions that are compliant with appropriate local, state and federal regulations.

  • Maintain current knowledge of external market trends and internal sale strategies and operational capabilities.

  • Self educate on current sustainability topics, issues, and trends. Attend conferences, meet other SMEs, read trade magazines/blogs, request training as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience Requirements include:


  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Environmental Science, Sustainability or "Green" Curriculum is required.

  • A minimum of 5 years of consulting experience within the Public/Government sector OR Sustainability- related consulting.

  • Experience should include business development, consulting sales, project management, and operations with an emphasis on holistic sustainability solutions, shared shaving programs, strategic business planning and sustainable technology innovation.

  • The individual must work in a team environment, have the ability to work across all industry segments and manage multiple business engagements concurrently.

  • Fundamental Business and Sustainability understanding is essential. The BDM must have the ability to think strategically (big picture) about the overall impact of the customer for WM. (S)He needs to understand and anticipate customers needs and goals even when they are not explicitly stated. An entrepreneurial skill set is highly valued; the ability to develop creative business solutions and new value propositions is necessary to be successful.

  • Knowledge and or experienced in Sustainable Design/Building (LEED®, Green Globes) Waste and Recycling, Resource reduction (energy, water, and gas conservation), Green House Gas (GHG / CO2), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Scorecards, and Enterprise Sustainability Platforms/Business Intelligence tools.


EXTENSIVE TRAVEL - Up to 75% travel may be required.
