Minimum Requirements:

Requires BS degree in engineering. Over 10 years experience in transit related engineering, planning and management. Thorough knowledge of the transit business in Southern California. Needs to demonstrate ability to develop a practice and secure work with transit oriented clients. Business development is key along with recruiting of staff. Position requires oversight of the practice while identifying key individuals to be recruited in the practice in support of the leader.

Candidate must be a self motivated individual who will be able to identify opportunities in the transit related business and develop a plan to secure work. Candidate must have good background in project management and be able to identify and allocate resources appropriately for projects. Candidate must have understanding of typical AE accounting practices and be responsible for the performance on projects under his/her direction.


Job Description:

This position will be part of a transit and rail engineering group ranging from bus and rail operations, to port-related goods movement, to environmental documentation for public transit extensions. Project tasks include assessment of and design of transit and rail facilities, extensive data analysis, freight rail feasibility studies, working with a multi-discipline team of engineers in support of the overall project delivery, and coordination with land use planning and preparation of various planning documents.

Candidate will lead a group of junior, intermediate and senior engineers involved in the pursuit and design of complex transit and rail projects. Candidate will be required to conduct senior-level design activities related to complex engineering analyses, nonstandard conditions and challenging technical elements of medium to large transit and rail projects. Candidate will need to coordinate with important URS clients and project team consultants and oversee and review design work produced by technical staff for quality and conformance to standards. Candidate will coordinate work efforts prepared by other departments/division within URS such as structure, geotechnical and environmental engineering staffs related to transit and rail projects. Candidate will define scope, budget and schedule, and coordinate with multidisciplinary team leaders during preparation of design documents. Candidate will use business development and marketing skills to strategize, target and pursue projects in the transit and rail business and related fields. Candidate will perform administrative duties ranging from staff evaluations to budget development to goal setting.

Position will interact with both clients and public agencies such as state DOTs, local units of government and federal agencies and will also interact with multi-disciplinary and multi-office teams within URS and subcontractors as well as the general public.
