The challenge?
Provide environmental permitting and scientific support for our rapidly growing siting, licensing and permitting practice for industrial projects. Our Environmental Planner career path provides you with the opportunity to play a role in all stages of siting and permitting projects in the industrial and energy sectors. In this position, you will serve as a team member working with scientists, engineers, project managers, and junior project staff. Each day, as an environmental professional, you will contribute to multi-disciplinary project teams in all phases of the execution and delivery of siting and licensing projects. You should be a self-motivated professional with 4 years of environmental permitting documentation experience and have a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Planning, or Environmental Engineering. You should also have a desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each siting and permitting project.

Our Environmental Planners:



  • Demonstrated success with preparing environmental assessment documents (e.g., NEPA). with a varied background (linear project experience preferred)
  • Have the ability to assist in the preparation of large and complex NEPA and environmental permitting documents for utility clients, including renewable resources
  • Have experience with local, state, and federal permitting processes for large projects ( commercial and/or industrial)
  • Work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Display excellent verbal communication skills with ability to discuss projects with clients, subcontractors, regulatory agencies, and internal team members, and in public in meetings
  • Exhibit excellent writing skills by producing concise and readable documents
Additional Information:


  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position. CH2M HILL will not sponsor an employment visa (e.g. H-1 B visa, etc) to fill this position.

Basic Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree Environmental Science, Planning, Anthropology or equivalent
  • 4 years experience in environmental permitting and/or planning for industrial projects
  • NEPA knowledge gained through work experience

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the basic qualifications the qualifications below are highly desired but not required:



  • Master's degree in Environmental Planning, Science, or Engineering
  • 6 years of experience in the industrial siting and licensing field in the Southwestern United States, preferably in California
  • Extensive knowledge of CEQA/NEPA process with linear project experience
  • Extensive knowledge of environmental policy, environmental law, &/or environmental impact statements
  • Experience with local, state, and federal permitting processes for large projects (residential, commercial, industrial)
  • Experience with socioeconomic, demographic, and/or economic concepts and analyses
  • Experience preparing mitigation plans
  • Experience in compliance report tracking
  • Experience setting up environmental monitoring programs
  • Experience setting up environmental monitoring programs which include multimedia compliance activities during construction (stormwater, waste management, hazardous materials, oil management)
  • Skills with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project programs general understanding of Geographic Information Systems
