Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology, History, or related field and attended an archaeological field school.

Minimum 2+ years of archaeological laboratory work experience with artifact collections from Phase I, II and III archaeological investigations.

Ability to communicate clearly in writing.

Experience with conducting laboratory analysis (data input and interpretation) of both prehistoric and historic material and with writing sections of archaeological technical reports.

Experience and knowledge of Federal government regulations and Middle Atlantic and New England state regulations, concerning the processing and curation of archaeological collections.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel and Access).

Valid Driver’s License with a good driving record and the flexibility to travel overnight and out of state for up to 2+ months at a time.


Job Description:

The Environmental Services Division of URS is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Archaeological Assistant Laboratory Supervisor for immediate permanent employment in the Burlington, New Jersey office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in cultural resources management, specific to conducting field investigations, artifact analysis and report preparation. URS is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects. Some of the projects the incumbent can look forward to include Phase II and III investigations for the I95 Corridor project in Philadelphia, PA; Phase I and II investigations for various pipeline and transmission projects in southwest Pennsylvania; various Phase I and II investigations in New York City; and Phase I and II investigations in the Hudson River Valley, New York.

Incumbent Responsibilities:

• Under the supervision of a Laboratory Manager, manages archaeological technicians during artifact washing, identification, data input and analysis.
• Conducts artifact identification, data input and analysis of archaeological laboratory projects.
• Conducts research on the identification and utilization of archaeological artifact.
• Manages small segments of large archaeological laboratory projects.
• Moderate supervision on small archaeological laboratory projects.
• Manages the curation and delivery of artifact collections.
• Receives instruction on specific assignments, objectives, complex projects and possible solutions.
• May assist in determining schedule and budget requirements.
• Help with obtaining subcontractor quotes.
• Responsible for Quality Control of tasks or small segments of project products, as well as, products of technical and administrative staff assigned tasks by Laboratory Supervisor and senior project professional.
• May assist in preparing written project proposals.
• May assist in writing sections of a report under the supervision of a senior project professional.
