Minimum Requirements: • Bachelor's degree in biology or other biology-related discipline (e.g., botany, ecology, resource management, etc.). • Minimum 2 years relevant experience in southern California or southwest US • Graduate degree in biology or other biology-related discipline without any work experience may enter at this level. • Or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience. • Experience with Southern California regulations, habitats, and flora. • Experience in vegetation mapping (MCV and Holland) and rare plant surveys (T&E, CNPS) • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access) software. • Able to provide examples of excellent writing and communication skills. The San Diego office of URS is actively seeking a highly talented Botanist for immediate employment as part of its growing Biological Resources Team. We are looking for a qualified applicant who will be able to demonstrate an established career in biological consulting with experience from all parts of southern California. The incumbent can look forward to a wide range of public and private projects throughout southern California and the western United States. The successful applicant will be responsible for: • working on complex and challenging projects with senior guidance; • coordinating and conducting vegetation mapping, general botanical surveys, and sensitive plant surveys in a variety of southern California environments; • participating in teams of field biologists; • organizing data collection for subsequent analysis; • preparing high quality CEQA/NEPA-related and other reports for local and regional projects; and, • assisting with proposals for projects or programs.
Projects are usually located in central and southern California, but opportunities for travel to other areas of the US occur occasionally. Position requires candidate to be a self-starter, able to work well as a team member, and to travel to site locations for periods up to 10 days during the field season.
