Substation Engineer - Englewood, CO
The challenge? Help to meet the ever increasing demand for electric power. Our Substation Engineer career offers an exciting opportunity to design Protection and Control systems for projects up through 500KV including establishment of protection & control philosophies. Each day your expertise in Substation Protection and Control will enable our utility clients to meet the power needs of their customers. You should be a self motivated Electrical Engineering graduate with 7 years experience in system protection and control design and a desire to grow personally and professionally with each electrical substation project.
Our Substation Engineers:
- Develop physical substation arrangements: Plan view drawings, elevation drawings, material specifications, equipment specifications, and bus calculations.
- Develop Metering & Relaying one line diagrams; schematics, logic diagrams, wiring diagrams, relay settings and calculations; control and relaying panel layouts and associated panel wiring diagrams as well as design of substation automation projects
- Apply knowledge of relaying for NERC compliance
- Support substation design staff in developing substation work products.
- Provide detailed design packages that comply with Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), International Electro-technical Commission (IEC), and CSA engineering design standards and safety codes
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering ( from accredited 4 year College or University
- 5 years demonstrated continuous experience in substation design
- Specific experience in substation protection and control design which may include transmission line, bus, generator, substation equipment, transformer differential, feeder protection including step distance.
- Experience in management of substation design projects in a consulting engineering environment
- Prior application and configuration experience with industry standard relays.
- Ability to establish protective relay settings using industry standard software tools
- Familiarity with utilizing symmetrical component concepts in applying and setting protective relays
Preferred Qualifications
- 7 years experience
- Experience working at an Electric Utility system protection department
- Experience in design and protection of series compensation protection and with HVDC and converter stations
- Knowledge of substation automation and communications protocols including DNP and IEC 61850
- Knowledge of NERC reliability standards
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineer (or BSEET) is required
- MSEE is preferred
