Job Description:  CH2M HILL Hydrogeology and Geology Careers – Oakland, CA

Our geologist jobs are your opportunity to help our clients with complex issues and protect human health and the environment. Each day, you will participate in a variety of field and office tasks related to planning, evaluating, and implementing environmental investigations and remediation projects.   You should be a self-motivated, team-focused individual, with 8 to 12 years of geology experience along with a desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each geology job.

  • Share experiences in a positive work environment where talents are recognized
  • Work in an effective team environment, learning and taking instruction from senior staff, and mentoring junior staff
  • Track and forecast scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Develop change management documents and discuss change management with client
  • Use strong team management skills to track and maintain status of tasks within a large team comprised of staff from different disciplines and backgrounds
  • Distill “big-picture" instruction from the client into specific tasks and prioritize/delegate effectively
  • Communicate status of tasks to the client
  • Use strong writing and technical skills to prepare and/or perform senior review of reports
  • Act as the project geologist/task manager/project manager for individual data evaluations
  • Delegate tasks to junior level staff and review their work
  • Lead and support safety “incident free" operations in the office and in the field
  • Maintain the highest standards of Health & Safety in all work
  • Contribute to an employee-owned company dedicated to sustainable development practices
  • Exhibit integrity and the highest quality in all activities
  • Attain or maintain 40-hr HAZWOPER certification

Travel requirement is approximately 5%.   CH2M HILL will not sponsor an employment visa (H1B, etc.) to fill this position. 

Basic Qualifications



  • BS Degree in Hydrogeology, Hydrology or Geology with an emphasis in Hydrogeology
  • Minimum of 8 years experience in the environmental field, including site remediation, site management/characterization, and project management
  • Knowledge and experience with various media (soil, groundwater, surface water and sediment) investigations, data assessments and evaluations, and remediation technologies
  • Knowledge and experience in surface water and groundwater applications for RCRA and CERCLA projects
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software
  • Must be knowledgeable in field work methodology and procedures
  • California certified Professional Geologist
