Our Senior Material Specialist (SMS) is the primary liaison between the Project and/or Design Discipline Engineer, the Procurement personnel, and the Supply Source for equipment and material requirements. The SMS is independently responsible for the quality and completeness of Engineered Equipment and/or Engineered Material Requisition Packages.

Each day you will act upon safety requirements, and especially complex manufacturing, logistical and transportation requirements for engineered packaged-equipment systems in order to achieve efficient and desired cost-effective results to meet the job site work schedules and requirements.   You should be a self motivated, detail oriented, professional with a Bachelor's degree,   7 years  experience working in the oil and gas industry in material management. You should have a desire to grow personally and professionally with each construction project won.
 
Our Senior Material Specialists :



  • Are proficient in using CH2M HILL's computer database system including accessing all equipment, material and work order data
  • Evaluate equipment and/or material requisitioned and whether warehoused materials may be used to meet the requirement(s)
  • Serve as the main interface between Procurement and the Engineering Team
  • Are an integral part of the Engineering team and are expected to develop of Procurement Plans and schedule integration to facilitate the on time delivery of materials for the Project
  • Participate the development of procurement, contracting, logistics and transportation strategies on a Project-wide basis in order to obtain the best value for the Project at minimum risk
  • Assist, as needed, Engineering, Procurement and Construction staff in order to add value to the timely development and issue of purchase requisitions, purchase specifications, bid evaluation completion and shipment and delivery of the equipment and materials for the Project
  • Assist, as needed, Construction staff in order to add value to the timely job site receipt of equipment and materials through management of logistics and transportation.
  • Provide input into project schedules regarding procurement, contracting, logistics and transportation activities
  •  Ensure the supplier quality surveillance effort is effective on applicable purchases so that quality equipment and materials are delivered to the job site with no re-work required
  • Help ensure effective cooperation and communication among the Project and Discipline Engineering, Procurement, Quality Assurance and Construction groups for the procurement of quality equipment, materials and services for the Project
  •  Inform the Procurement Manager and the Project and/or Construction Manager on all matters of importance involving materials management, procurement, logistics and transportation issues, including equipment, materials, and transportation status, and any outstanding or potential problems

Additional Information:

Basic Qualifications

 

  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Materials Management, Business, or Management Science or equivalent experience
  • 6 or more years of work experience in the oil and gas industry or related materials management

 

Preferred Qualifications



  • Demonstrated strengths with interpersonal relationships, communication, and creative problem solving skills
  • Arctic oil and gas experience

  • Skills and behavioral characteristics revolve around management of work, developing relationships, flexibility, change, transition, selling ideas, and understanding the big-picture regarding project materials management, as well as a personal desire to excel in quality and performance of accountabilities.
  • Skills required include demonstrated task-focused accomplishments, negotiation, facilitation, demonstrated initiative, creative problem-solver, translate concepts into applications, as well as possessing computer-use skills and in traditional skills of interpersonal communication, administration and functional knowledge, and product knowledge. 
  • Skills required also include speaking with authority resulting from personal accomplishments in business relations throughout the field of materials management, procurement, contracting, logistics and transportation, and strong, established English language writing skills.
  • Behavioral characteristics include being perceptive and investigative enough to recognize when and where problem areas are developing and then move quickly to develop and implement or coordinate satisfactory solutions
  • Further, behavioral characteristics also include proactively identifying and developing opportunities having short- and long-term cost-saving consequences for the Company and Clients, alike; facilitate interaction between Materials Management, Project/Discipline Engineering, Procurement-Contracting and other discipline personnel translating concepts into applications.
