Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or similar field. Experience may substitute for degree.
At least 5 years experience in systems engineering of Navy and Marine Corps weapon systems. Experience is needed in a variety of programs, including Laser Weapon System (LaWS) or other laser systems, Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (CIED), naval surface-launched missile systems, and others. Some experience with MIL-STD-882 system safety process is strongly desired.
Strong communication and computer skills, including expertise in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access (applications, no database development necessary) is required.
Position may require travel. Position will require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.


Job Description:

URS is seeking a System Safety Engineer to provide system safety expertise in support of new technology system safety programs. Consult with various program offices to design and execute highly effective safety programs. Perform a range of hardware/software safety analyses and hazard assessments. Develop safety documentation and presentation materials for safety review board meetings. Conduct safety evaluations/investigations. Review and provide safety comments relative to adequacy of various system safety program documentation such as the System Safety Program Plan, Preliminary Hazards Analysis, System Hazards Analysis, Sub-system Hazards Analysis and the Operating and Support Hazards Analysis.

Establish or maintain databases as needed for hazard tracking status. Support and/or conduct test activities, design reviews, and safety assessments of hardware/software trouble reports. Prepare and deliver MIL-STD-882 safety analyses, comprehensive technical data packages and supporting presentations for review by senior level safety review boards. Maintain program schedules and timelines. Interact with customers, senior leadership, and Project Leads to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks. Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
