The appropriately qualified applicant will be willing to perform field inspection on Michigan Department of Transportation and local agency surface transportation construction projects. Responsibilities: • Works under the direct supervision of a professional engineer and delegated construction professionals. • Construction field inspection and daily reporting. This includes responsibility to verify that construction work is performed in accordance with the project plans and specifications; visual inspection of material and equipment deliveries with comparison to contract expectations; verify proper storage and handling of materials and equipment; and knowledge and application of owner requirements in the practice of field inspection. • Provides immediate notification of construction, material, or equipment deviations from contract expectations to those providing direct supervision. • Works under limited supervision on repetitive tasks, moderate supervision on complex tasks, exercises independent judgment, and seeks advice and feedback from those providing direct supervision. • Researches plans, specifications, construction manuals, construction methods, and construction approaches for each project which this person is working on. • Application of this person's knowledge of construction techniques, materials, and effort in the surface transportation arena and awareness of potential obstacles that may be encountered in delivering surface transportation projects and maintaining records for those projects. • Performs regular and sometimes complex computations. • Other duties as assigned.
