Minimum Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree in geology or other geology-related discipline (e.g., hydrogeology, environmental geology, engineering geology). • Entry-level position; no experience required. • General knowledge of geological principles, including physical geology stratigraphy, structural geology, geomorphology, environmental geology and geophysics. • Ability to write and to convey complex thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise manner. • Proficiency in standard office suite software applications. • Awareness of behavior based safety culture and acts accordingly. • Exposure to geologic field data collection methods, including soil/rock logging, soil sampling and geologic drilling methods. • Ability to learn through on-the-job experience. • Must be able to work long hours in challenging outdoor environments with extremes in climatic conditions. • Must have a valid driver’s license, be an excellent, safety-conscious driver with the ability to operate off-road vehicles. The Environmental Engineering group of URS is actively seeking a creative, talented Graduate Geologist for immediate employment in the Baton Rouge office. The incumbent can look forward to being responsible for a wide variety of activities, with projects ranging from civil engineering projects to groundwater resource studies to environmental remediation projects.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following: • Performs specific and limited portions of routine assignments, while working under close supervision with direction given on all assignments. • Gathers data and other information to be used in the preparation of scientific reports. • Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations. • Prepares basic data and scientific documents. • Reviews analytical data for general indicators of quality for routine analyses based on well-defined guidelines.
