Job Description:
The Surface Transportation Department of URS in Michigan is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Civil Engineer for immediate employment in the Southfield, MI office. URS is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects. The appropriately qualified applicant will be willing to perform field inspection and engineering on Michigan Department of Transportation and local agency surface transportation construction projects.
Responsibilities:
• Work under the direct supervision of a professional engineer and delegated construction professionals.
• Construction field inspection and daily reporting. This includes verifying that construction work is performed in accordance with the project plans and specifications; visually inspecting material and equipment deliveries and comparing to contract expectations; verifying proper storage and handling of materials and equipment; and knowledge and application of owner requirements in the practice of field inspection.
• Uses construction tracking software proficiently.
• Researches plans, specifications, construction manuals, construction methods, and construction approaches for each project which this person is working on.
• Applies knowledge of construction techniques, materials, and effort in the surface transportation arena and awareness of potential obstacles that may be encountered in delivering surface transportation projects and maintaining records for those projects.
• Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results, and follows operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes.
• Performs standard computations or analysis.
• Uses judgment on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.
• Performs assignments designed to develop professional knowledge and abilities.
• Seeks advice and feedback from those providing direct supervision.
• Other duties as assigned.
