Our Quality/Supplier Inspection Manager position will offer you an exciting opportunity to help our Clients provide a safe and reliable source of electric power to heat homes and schools, run factories, and provide goods and services we all depend upon. This position requires recent experience working in the Quality Management Systems environment in the Power Generation/Power Plant industry. This position also requires experience in performing supplier surveillance, inspection coordination and reporting. Only those applicants with such experience will be considered.
Our Quality/Supplier Inspection Manager:
- The QM/SIC is responsible for the oversight of the quality of the products produced as well as the management of the Quality Management Systems deployed on the projects delivered and supported from the various Delivery Centers. Additional duties require working with project teams from the Delivery Centers in budgeting, planning and coordination of supplier shop inspection of equipment. The QM/SIC reports directly to the Power Business Group Director of Quality.
- Ensure that client Performance Surveys are sent or interview requested for projects per client feedback process.
- Serve as local administrator for the Corrective Action/Preventive Action (CAPA) system including the reporting, verifying completion and closing CAPA when changes are implemented.
- Perform or coordinate local proposal, project and discipline auditing functions as assigned; maintaining the audit records and follow-up of audit actions; assist other Business Groups for audits as assigned.
- Encourage proposal and project teams to identify lessons learned as well as encouraging the use of the lessons learned database at kickoff.
- Provide interpretation and guidance to users of the business work procedures including the coordination of improvements with the Director of Quality.
- Conduct and assure Quality orientation is provided for new employees.
- Coordinate process, procedures and tools training and provide refresher training as applicable.
- Assist project teams in day to day activities while performing project QA tasks, as applicable.
- Be proactive in assisting projects with the use of procedures and forms.
- Develop and drive a strategic approach of continuous improvement and a quality mindset throughout our business processes.
- Work with Project Management, Engineering and Procurement to develop the supplier inspection requirements for the project. Prepare budget and manpower requirements to support identified inspections. Identify when the use of 3 rd party inspectors are needed.
- Prepare project specific Inspection and Test Plans (ITP) which incorporate prime contract requirements.
- Review and be familiar with the purchase orders commercial and technical requirements for the equipment being inspected
- Perform periodic shop visits of suppliers to support the ITP and prepare concise reports to confirm compliance and/or to describe non compliance and propose methods of resolution. The inspection also includes the preparation of Non Conformance Reports (NCR) and the follow through to closure.
SPECIAL NOTE: CH2M HILL will not sponsor a work visa (e.g. H1B, etc.,) to fill this position. Preference will be given to qualified candidates residing in the greater Charlotte, NC
Basic Qualifications
- 20 years of engineering/construction industry experience
- 7 years of relevant power project experience in quality and supplier surveillance (solid fuel, simple cycle and combined cycle power plants)
- EPC as well as engineering services project delivery experience
- BS/BA required or relevant practical quality experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced experience with project management and project execution along with the understanding of concepts and methodologies.
- Understand various industry contract types, i.e. lump sum, cost plus, T&M and be versed in prime contract language. Must also understand the Joint Venture contracting relationships.
- Must be able to exercise independent and professional judgment in solving problems and coordinating quality and supplier inspection issues with team members, clients, subcontractors and senior management.
- Be capable of analyzing project performance criteria and provide recommendations to senior management for improvements.
- Must possess technical and practical application of project controls, engineering, procurement, construction and start-up functions for power plants.
- Excellent analytical, statistical and problem solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Prior experience in leading and motivating cross-functional teams, using management techniques and personality skills to deliver quantified business results.
- Must be able to develop, convey and maintain positive, cooperative, team-oriented relationships with coworkers, supervisors, managers, clients and others in contact during job performance.
