Job Description: 

I. Job Summary

Performs advanced engineering techniques and procedures.



II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.



  • Determines theoretical principles involved and approach to be taken using judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and adaptations of standard techniques, procedures and criteria in order to design equipment, systems and/or structures which will allow the company to meet program requirements.

  • Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods and represents the organization in conferences to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work. Writes or directs others to write technical reports to document engineering analysis and findings.

  • Plans, schedules, conducts or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work in a total program or project. Performs work which includes complex features such as resolution or conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard materials and difficult coordination requirements.

  • Conducts detailed feasibility studies for proposed equipment and systems. Reviews design and development plans; reviews cost estimates for completing the proposed projects and evaluates engineering proposals and specifications.

  • Acts as a liaison with customer and vendor representatives to ensure adherence to design specification and customer requirements.

  • Conducts on-site technical visits. Monitors field installation and testing. Reviews and evaluates operational efficiency of equipment and systems at various facilities.



III. Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory duties, but may occasionally act as a team lead.




V. Work Environment

  • Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc) most of the work day;

  • Required to exert physical effort in handling objects less than 30 pounds rarely;

  • Required to be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals, etc) rarely;

  • Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements rarely;

  • Normal setting for this job is: office setting.




IV. Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.



A. Education and Experience


Required: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, or similar area of study, with five or more years of previous experience.



Preferred: Master's Degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, or similar area of study, with five or more years of previous experience.


B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements


Required: None required.

Preferred: Professional Engineer Registration in Massachusetts, or the ability to obtain in 6 months through reciprocity.





C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Prefered


· Construction management experience

· Landfill operations, design and permitting experience

· Experience interaction with local and state regulatory personnel a plus.

· Good verbal and written communication skills.

· Engineering background on earthwork design and construction

· Proven skills and experience in planning, coordination and general construction supervision.

· Basic computer skills needed in Microsoft Excel and Word.

· Knowledge of applicable environmental regulatory programs affecting our business.

· Ability to work with a variety of disciplines and resolve disputes in an effective and efficient manner.
