Sustainability Consultant - WM Sustainability Services, Montreal

Environmentally motivated Eco-conscience, customer service driven individual wanted to perform WM Sustainability Services (WMSS) Environmental Evaluations. These evaluations consist of sustainability evaluations of waste, electricity and water resource utilization at customer locations. Upon performing evaluations, generates reports indicating overall sustainability baseline, along with a plan and a group of solutions for potential improvements. Has the ability to formulate and implement best practices. Maintains pre-established standards for safety and environmental issues. Must speak French and English.


  • Consult with potential customers to develop evaluation plans and appropriate potential goals and solutions. These may include waste diversion, energy saving and/or other sustainable initiatives, as well as cost saving opportunities

  • Perform full sustainability evaluations primarily focused on waste, energy, and water. Prepare final report and present conclusions to the customer in a timely manner.

  • Operate and responsibility for the up-keep and maintenance of WMSS vehicle (e.g., Striker van) for use in transporting personnel and equipment utilized for evaluations, along with some exhibiting the vehicle in select Market Area Public Relations activities.

  • Maintain evaluation specific equipment and ensure that equipment is ready for scheduled evaluations.

  • Analyze evaluation results and consult with client to identify, design and implement environmental sustainability initiatives and cost saving opportunities and proposals.

  • Sales responsibilities for the solutions derived from initial evaluations.

  • Ensure compliance with client and government regulations by performing necessary inspections and reporting. Resolve all issues in a timely manner.

  • Promote culture of safety by ensuring site personnel are properly trained to perform assigned duties and comply with safety, environmental, federal, state & local regulations.

  • Maintains communications and a close working relationship with key WM Market Area personnel to include, but not limited to MAGM, MASM and sales personnel.

  • Coordinate logistics for transportation of hazardous and non-hazardous waste from client site including profiling, scheduling, manifesting and physically loading bulk and drum loads.


Supervisory Responsibilities: The highest level of supervisory skills that may be required in this job is the management of non-supervisory employees. This includes possibly supervising non-exempt employees during the audit process.

Education and Experience


Required: Associates Degree in Environmental Sciences, Accounting or Business and two or more years experience with responsibility in project/business management. Environmental or services industry experience is required. Bachelor's in Business Administration (or Master's in industry related field) may substitute for three years of experience at the discretion of the hiring manager.


Preferred: Bachelor's in Business Administration or advanced degree in related field (Accounting, Environmental Sciences). One year of experience in a supervisory level position.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements



24 Hour HAZWOPER Certification is preferred, along with a working knowledge of DOT, RCRA, TSCA


Certified Energy Manager (CEM) is preferred


LEED AP is preferred


Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required


Environmentally conscience with strong business skills and understanding an understanding of the current sustainability environment with the ability think big picture and anticipate customer needs. An entrepreneurial skill set is highly valued with the ability to creatively achieve stretch goals and provide new services and value to existing customers. Must speak English and French.
