Minimum Requirements:
BS in Civil Engineering or appropriate discipline or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience.
Minimum of five (5) years' experience, with an emphasis in civil engineering fields such as highway design and drainage design.
Must have the ability to plan and design roadways and to develop design plans, perform calculations, write specifications, and develop estimates for these areas is required.
Must have a working knowledge of MicroStation and Geopak, experience with MS Office, and be able to work as a member of a team or perform independent work as required.
Position also requires good interpersonal skills; good command of the English language both, verbally and written, the ability to express thoughts clearly, good time management skills, and a good attitude towards work.
Must be able to assist and eventually lead business development efforts and manage projects and take responsibility for production, staff management, schedule and budget.
Requires working on a variety of tasks with the willingness to learn. This position will work on roadway, hydraulics, planning and design, and will create documents, spreadsheets, plans, estimates, and specifications. This position will receive direction from the Roadway Group Leader and also work independently depending on the work involved.
Job Description:
URS is seeking a Senior Civil Roadway Engineer/Project Engineer for Phase II design projects and Phase I Study projects in Illinois. The successful candidate will work within Microstation and Geopak Software developing geometric design including horizontal alignment, vertical alignment, roadside design, safety design, drainage design of highway and street improvement projects. The candidate will work on small to large Phase I or Phase II Roadway Improvement projects. This position will be a part of the Transportation Group and will report within the roadway subgroup to the Roadway Group Leader and will work under this leader or under a senior engineer/project manager.
In addition, this position will be working within other subgroups depending on project workload. Position will interact with clients, the public, regulatory agencies, reviewers/stakeholders, standard making organizations, other consultants, and professional organizations and will involve attending meetings, making presentations, and responding to questions. He/she will also work closely with other staff in other departments which may not be within the same office.
Work will include:
- Evaluation of alternate horizontal and vertical alignments.
- Assisting with the evaluation of the impact of a roadway having a given alignment.
- Quantity computations and design calculations.
- Designing a roadway and draining system.
- Roadway plan preparation and estimates of cost
- Work within Microstation and Geopak software
- Work within MS Office Word and Excel
