Minimum Requirements: Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or engineering technology from an ABET accredited engineering program
PE in Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) or a PE in another engineering discipline
Minimum five (5) years of demonstrated experience in the field of fire protection engineering which includes: preparation of engineering drawings and specifications for fire suppression, fire alarm, and egress systems
Must be fully versed with IBC, IFC, NFPA, and industry related codes and standards, including Federal Government Standards
Experience with AutoCAD and hydraulic calculation software
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Must be able to work on several project assignments simultaneously of intermediate and advanced complexity with minimal direction and provide technical direction for junior level staff
Must demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of fire suppression and fire detection systems while having a basic understanding of other disciplines and the role of the fire protection engineer in a variety of A/E projects
The nature of the work requires travel
Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
Due to the nature of the work assignments, candidate must be able to obtain GSA security clearance within 6 months of hire
Must be able to work in a team environment, which includes mentoring local office staff as well as working with fire protection staff in other URS offices

URS has full-service architectural and engineering expertise. The URS Fire Protection Group provides code consulting services and design of fire protection / life safety systems for health care facilities, educational institutions, courthouses, high rises, and industrial facilities nationwide.
Responsibilities for the position include: application of building and fire codes (IBC, IFC, and NFPA), preparation of code studies, design drawings, and specifications for fire sprinkler, fire alarm, and smoke control systems, and manipulation of hydraulic calculation software.
Job responsibilities include: writing technical reports, letters and other project communications with minimal supervision.
