Minimum Requirements: Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program
Must have passed the NCEES Fire Protection Engineering Exam with PE registration in Colorado (FPE)
Minimum nine (9) years of experience with design and consulting for fire protection and life safety systems, including preparation of engineering drawings and specifications for fire suppression, fire alarm, and egress systems and comprehensive fire and building code consulting
Must be fully versed with IBC, IFC, NFPA, and industry related codes and standards, including Federal Government Standards
Proficient in AutoCAD and hydraulic calculation software
Strong verbal and written communication skills required
Experience managing projects required
Must be able to execute several project assignments simultaneously of intermediate and advanced complexity with minimal direction
Must demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of fire suppression and fire detection systems while having a basic understanding of other disciplines and the role of the fire protection engineer in a variety of A/E projects, which includes both leading and supporting roles
Must have the experience and technical capability to serve as the technical specialist for the office for fire protection engineering topics and provide technical direction for junior level staff located in remote offices
Must be able to work in a team environment, which includes working with A/E and fire protection staff in other URS offices
Must be able to solve complex issues with limited direction, make decisions on engineering problems, and provide advice and consultation to internal and external clients with regards to fire protection engineering topics
Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident authorized to work on Federal Government projects

URS has full-service architectural and engineering expertise. The URS Fire Protection Group is a growing group of fire protection engineers who provide code consulting services and design of fire protection / life safety systems for health care facilities, educational institutions, federal government facilities, high rises, and industrial facilities nationwide for internal and external clients.
Responsibilities for the position include application of building and fire codes (IBC, IFC, and NFPA), preparation of code studies, design drawings, and specifications for fire sprinkler, fire alarm, and smoke control systems, and manipulation of hydraulic calculation software.
Job responsibilities include writing technical reports, letters, and other project communications with minimal supervision, preparing drawings and specifications for fire protection and life safety systems, conducting life safety reviews, conducting peer reviews, and making technical presentations.
In addition, the candidate will be expected to participate in business development efforts, including identifying potential clients and work, assisting with proposals and presentations, and assisting business line managers and program area managers in the development of new business.
