Job Description:  CH2M HILL Environmental Utility Project/Client Manager - Cincinnati, OH, Pittsburgh, PA; Boston, MA; Philadelphia, PA; Chantilly, VA; Parsippany, NJ and Syracuse, NY

The challenge? Provide environmental expertise/client service development for our rapidly growing liability management practice such as site characterization and remediation for electric and gas utility, and power and energy clients in the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic United States. Our Environmental Project Manager (PM)/Client Service Manager (CSM) careers provide you with the opportunity to work on projects particularly focused on solving site assessment and remediation challenges for the energy and power industries (e.g., manufactured gas plant (MGP) sites, coal combustion residuals (CCR), and similar liability/contamination challenges). Each day, you will be the face of CH2M HILL with the responsibility for growing our business in the utility market, developing project work and leading project teams, backed with nationally renowned technologists, in all phases of the execution and delivery for energy and power industry environmental projects. You should be a self-motivated professional with 10 to 15+ years of successful experience in conducting site assessment/remediation projects in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, have a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology/Hydrogeology (other degrees) and have a desire to grow personally as well as professionally. A professional registration such as PE, PG, LSRP or LSP will be plus.

Our Environmental Project Managers/Client Service Managers:


  • Develop electric and gas utility, power and energy clients in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic focusing on existing and clients and opportunities
  • Self-motivated to make contacts with prospective clients and develop growth strategies.
  • Work directly with clients to understand and meet their expectations, and leverage work to develop further or follow-on business opportunities for the firm (strong ability to interface with utility, energy and power clients, familiarity with issues common to these clients)
  • Play a lead role in building the future of our environmental practice through business development, project management, client service management, staff development and mentoring.
  • Participate in client development discussions, and writing proposals for submission to clients.
  • Lead project teams in all phases of the execution and delivery of complex remediation projects focused on the utility, energy and power side. Demonstrate experience in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Ohio, Virginia, or West Virginia, etc
  • Demonstrate experience and a working knowledge of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA/Superfund) or state equivalent (e.g., New York RCRA-C) requirements and deliverables, as well as understanding of the state regulations specific to MGP sites in NJ and NY.
  • Possess experience leading and performing cleanup alternative analysis, remedial system design, construction/remediation oversight, decommissioning, operation and maintenance plans and report and work plan writing.
  • Network within industry organizations, technical seminars, and trade shows, including the delivery of technical presentations.
  • Lead various aspects of business development process including preparing proposals, strategic marketing initiatives, acting as the client service manager, and ability to quickly integrate with senior management team in developing marketing strategies

  • This position has the flexibility to be attached to one of the following CH2M HILL offices: Cincinnati, OH, Pittsburgh, PA , Philadelphia, PA, Syracuse, NY, Parsippany, NJ, Boston, MA or the Washington DC metro area (Chantilly, VA, Silver Springs, MD).
  • CH2M HILL will not sponsor an employment visa (e.g., H-1B visa, etc) to fill this position.
  • Ability to travel to client sites as needed is required
  • Proven client development skills, including previous experience managing energy projects

Basic Qualifications

  • Senior engineer or environmental scientist, with 15+ years of experience, and a dedication to client service
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Planning, Science, relaterd degree or Engineering Strong experience solving liability-side problems for the energy and power industries (e.g., manufactured gas plant sites, coal combustion residuals, and similar problems)
  • Strong ability to interface with energy and power clients, familiarity with issues common to such clients
  • Proven skills at developing new business and cultivating client relationships
