Minimum Requirements:

• BS degree in Environmental, Civil, or Chemical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of environmental engineering work experience.
• Hawaii Professional Engineer (PE) credential or ability to obtain Hawaii license within 6 months (FE registration required).
• Candidate must be familiar with Federal and State of Hawaii environmental regulations. The successful candidate must demonstrate experience working with federal agencies performing work in Hawaii and relevant State of Hawaii agencies including the State of Hawaii Department of Health.
• Candidate must have environmental compliance and remediation experience. This would include, for example, soil, and groundwater monitoring and characterization; Phase I, II, and III studies, site assessments, remedial design/implementation; permitting, inspection, and audits; remedial investigations and site closures. Other relevant experience would include knowledge of landfill operations, and waste management experience including manifesting, transportation and disposal of various types of waste streams. Experience with storm water mitigation procedures and wetland studies are helpful. Multidisciplinary experience including scoping, cost estimating, scheduling, specifications writing, and subsurface fate and transport modeling are important.
• Must have 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and 8-hour OSHA Supervisor training.
• Candidate must demonstrate high proficiency skills using computer software. In addition to Microsoft Office software (Word, Access, Excel, Outlook), candidate should also be familiar with scheduling software and software used to compile numerical and statistical data.
• Candidate must be able to clearly communicate technical information both verbally and in written form; candidates will be asked to provide an example of their technical writing for evaluation.
• The successful candidate must demonstrate that he/she has the ability to work both independently or on a team on multiple assignments.
• Travel is required.
• Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.


Job Description:

The URS Hawaii office is looking for a qualified candidate to join our Environmental and Planning Division as an Environmental Engineer. The successful candidate will be involved in the design, planning and performance of engineering activities related to the prevention, control, and remediation of environmental health hazards. In addition to environmental monitoring and assessment assignments, specific tasks may include construction and maintenance of structures and facilities, such as remediation systems, water and sewage systems, and waste disposal units to solve environmental problems. Assignments may also include organization, coordination and consultation on environmental compliance assignments such as Environmental Assessments (EA) and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIS).

The types of projects anticipated include environmental planning and engineering at industrial facilities; and engineering and environmental services related to transportation structures/systems, hydraulic structures/systems, and water/wastewater systems for private clients as well as local, State, and Federal clients.

The selected candidate will work very closely with URS project managers, engineers, and other staff professionals to develop professional recommendations, remedial alternatives, and technical reports. The successful candidate must comply with URS' Corporate Health and Safety program and actively promote a strong safety culture. The successful candidate will be a task leader, overseeing staff and coordinating projects/tasks from inception to completion. Support of marketing and proposal efforts for new and existing clients will also be required.
