Minimum Requirements: Archaeological Field Technicians shall have two years of academic study in anthropology, archaeology or related field.
Minimum 3 years experience in archaeological fieldwork and analysis or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience. Extensive knowledge and understanding of equipment and technology used to perform recording of artifacts and archaeological survey's.
Knowledge of basic field excavation and survey techniques, ability to process (wash, catalog and mark) recovered archaeological artifacts, and properly fill out field and laboratory forms.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: Extensive manual labor including excavation with shovels and moving wheelbarrows filled with dirt.
The ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting and carrying objects weighing 50 lbs.
Must have a tolerance for working in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions - walking up to 10 miles per day while carrying up to 50 pounds of equipment.
Valid Driver's License with a good driving record and the ability to travel and drive regularly, often long distances.
May need to undergo drug screening according to URS procedures if assigned contract requires it.
Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions and rugged terrain.
Must be able to conduct dig and screen shovel tests.
Must be able to accurately record data on field forms. Job Description: URS Corporation is looking for Archaeological Field Technicians involving Phase I, Phase II or Phase III archaeological field work. Initial field work will be based in Oklahoma and Kansas.
Lodging (single occupancy) and cost reimbursable receipt per diem is provided.
Will work under the guidance of a Senior Archaeologist/Field Director/Crew Chief.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Conducts archaeological investigations / excavations / survey.
Performs basic analysis of artifacts.
Performs various reporting functions.
Will conduct archaeological investigations/ excavations; screen soil deposits; take accurate field notes; draw accurate profiles and plan views; record archaeological field data surveys; use digital camera; process artifacts (wash, mark and catalog) and perform basic analysis of artifacts.
Other duties as assigned.
