Position Summary:
Operate equipment consisting of but not limited to: backhoe; front end loaders, fork lifts, zoom boom, manlifts

Essential Job Functions:
  • Journeyman operation of equipment consisting of but not limited to: backhoe; front end loaders; fork lifts, zoom boom, manlifts
  • Pre-check and inspect all equipment before operation
  • Check fuel supplies at sites to ensure adequate availability
  • Inspect product load for accuracy, and safely move it around the warehouse or facility to ensure timely and complete delivery
  • Manually or mechanically load and unload materials from pallets, skids, platforms, cars, lifting devices, or other transport vehicles
  • Position lifting devices under, over, or around loaded pallets, skids, and boxes, and secure material or products for transport to designated areas
  • Maintain equipment logs
  • Keep records of equipment usage and problems encountered
  • Signal directions or warnings to coworkers; respond to hand or audio signals from crew members
  • Monitor operations to ensure that health and safety standards are met; take actions to
  • avoid potential hazards and obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, and falling objects; locate underground services, such as pipes and wires, prior to beginning work
  • Repair and maintain equipment, making emergency adjustments or assisting with major repairs as necessary

Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
  • Possess knowledge of the functional operation, purpose, capabilities and limitations of and the proper manner in which to operate and maintain all specific pieces of equipment they are qualified to operate; be able to read instrumentation gages, understand the results and what each
  • Gauge signifies and demonstrate the safe accessories within the range of each piece of equipment operated
  • Ability to read, interpret or use capacity charts, rigging diagrams, common hand signals
  • Knowledge of computerized components in various kinds of machinery
Physical Demand/Work Environment:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is required to:
  • Must have ability to stand, walk on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, sit, squat, kneel, reach through low and high ranges and exhibit normal balance and coordination. These basic physical requirements are essential for safe performance of the job in harsh environments with exposure to very cold temperatures and while wearing arctic gear
  • Lift 40 lbs from floor to waist x 2 with a 12 second interval
  • Lift 40 lbs from floor to shoulders x 2 with a 12 second interval
  • Stairs: Walk up and down 5 steps x 10 for a total of 50 steps, self-paced and continuous
  • Slanted ladder: Climb up and down 5 rungs, x 10 for a total of 50 rungs, self-paced allow a 60 second rest break after climbing up and down 30 rungs
  • Repetitive Stoop Test: Perform from standing position, bend forward at waist as far as possible without bending the knees with hands reaching toward the floor x 10, self-paced but continuous
  • Repetitive Kneel Test: Perform from standing, kneel on one knee, alternate from left to right knee x 5 each knee
  • Repetitive Squat Test: Perform a functional squat and stand x 5
  • Twist and Flex Test: Perform from standing alternate toe touches x 5 to each side to assess ability to twist and flex the trunk repetitively

Basic Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) required
  • Three (3) years experience in operating construction equipment required
  • Previous experience with Forklifts and Loaders required
  • Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by CH2M Hill's auto insurer required
  • Must pass required IVES Operator Certification test prior to employment
