Tesla's goal is to accelerate the world's transition to electric mobility with a full range of increasingly affordable electric cars. California-based Tesla designs and manufactures EVs, as well as EV powertrain components for partners such as Toyota and Daimler. Tesla has delivered more than 2,400 Roadsters to customers worldwide and received more than 13,000 reservations for Model S. Model S, the world's first premium sedan to be engineered from the ground up as an electric vehicle, began deliveries to U.S. customers in June of this year and was named Motor Trend's prestigious 2013 Car of the Year.

The Role

This role provides site development and project management oversight for all phases of Tesla's Supercharger and stationary battery projects, including site diligence, design, construction and closeout ensuring that quality, budget and scheduling expectations are achieved. The mix of responsibilities will map to the greater deployment program and will therefore shift over time. The ideal candidate will be a clear-headed problem solver, able to fluidly pivot across many work categories, with impeccable interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities
Project Development
  • Site due diligence
  • Utility service and interconnection due diligence
  • Review lease documents
  • Develop budgets
  • Design phase management
  • Construction drawings and shop drawings review and approval
  • Equipment procurement review and approval
  • Obtain all required AHJ approvals
  • Manage applicable rebates and incentives

Project Implementation
  • Administer construction contracts
  • Coordinate with property owners/managers, general contractor and other critical vendors
  • Manage construction schedule, coordinating with internal and external teams
  • Conduct project site visits to review project schedule, quality of work and compliance to construction documents
  • Manage and approve payment to vendors ensuring work has been completed per schedule

Project Close Out
  • Prepare punch list
  • Obtain final City inspections and Certificate of Occupancy
  • Confirm punch list items have been corrected before approving final payments
  • Obtain, review and approve general contractor's turnover package

Requirements
  • Minimum 5 - 7 years project development experience, ideally involving new power service and/or distributed generation
  • Proven track record of managing and delivering multiple simultaneous construction projects on time and within budget, and adhering to the highest quality and standards
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction related field
  • Able to communicate effectively to a wide range of individuals; building officials, tenant coordinators, general contractors, subcontractors, architects, consultants, Tesla direct vendors, and internal Tesla staff
  • Ability to identify potential problems and resolve before they become costly to correct
  • Understanding of the design process and practiced ability to manage architects and consultants
  • Ability to develop new design approaches that can save time and money
  • Ability to effectively manage General Contractors
  • Excellent cost control, project forecasting skills and ability to develop detailed schedules
  • Working knowledge of construction documents, commercial leases, and construction exhibits
  • Ability to function autonomously, working independent of a support staff, in a fast-paced environment, ability to manage changing priorities
  • Ability to travel (up to 50%) as required, and perhaps beyond 50% during the first few months of employment
