Position: Compensation Manager Tesla's goal is to accelerate the world's transition to electric mobility with a full range of increasingly affordable electric cars. Palo Alto, California-based Tesla designs and manufactures EVs, as well as EV power train components for partners such as Toyota and Daimler. Tesla has delivered more than 2,300 Roadsters to customers worldwide. Model S, the first premium sedan to be engineered from the ground up as an electric vehicle, began deliveries to customers today. Tesla plans to build 5,000 Model S vehicles in 2012, and 20,000 in 2013. The Compensation Manager will be responsible for managing compensation programs internationally and providing excellent client facing compensation support.
Specific Duties: - Act as a business partner, strategic solution provider and counselor for HR and business teams
- Understand international markets. Identify opportunities to improve pay-for-performance strategies. Diagnose gaps between current and desired state and deploy actions to resolve the gap
- Guide, direct and monitor pay practices worldwide to ensure alignment with local market competitiveness and legal requirements (cash and equity) as well as corporate strategies/philosophies
- Implement effective compensation practices and processes which promote, facilitate and support the accomplishment of strategic business plans and global compensation strategies
- Using strong communication & analytical skills drive understanding of pay practices among leaders and managers and assist in cascading to all levels of the organization
- Provide advanced coaching, consulting and facilitation to managers and team members to create broad understanding of compensation philosophies, practices and administration from both a company perspective as well as local market perspective
- Coordinate equity awards and salary increase planning
- Ensure consistency of intra-group salary band administration by approving job evaluations and coordinating with corporate resources to make sure that inter-group consistency is also maintained
- Participate in appropriate local market compensation surveys and contribute to global salary planning process
- Periodic evaluations of internal transfer policy and career paths to ensure employee mobility and satisfaction
Skills: - Bachelor's degree required, Masters in business, finance, mathematics or HR preferred
- Minimum of 10-12 years of experience in compensation post graduation. Strong preference for compensation certificate
- Experience with job analysis, documentation and quantitative methods of job grading
- Experience in multiple industries a plus
- Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory environments affecting compensation (both cash and equity)
- Knowledgeable in variable pay plans and equity programs worldwide
- Broad functional HR competence in multiple functions, such as: compensation, employee relations, benefits, HR business partner, HR systems
- Must be able to consult and advise executives, HR leaders, managers and operational staff on compensation issues
- Act as an agent for change - willing to challenge the status quo
- Possess high level of integrity; be widely trusted; direct and truthful, with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships and gain confidence
- Must possess expert analytical skills and superior knowledge of business applications such as Excel and Powerpoint
