Job Description: 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Investor Relations and working closely with the senior management team, he/she will assist in the development and execution of a proactive investor relations program aimed at maximizing the company’s long-term shareholder value.  The role will have both internal and external responsibilities including providing investor/market intelligence, analyzing competitor results, mining the organization for relevant operating and financial information to help the company more effectively tell its story, and educating investors and analysts on the company’s business strategies and performance. 

 

The Director, Investor Relations will play a critical role in supporting the development and execution of AECOM’s overall investor relations strategy, ensuring consistency and differentiation in the company’s message, a full understanding of the dynamics affecting the stock price, building and maintaining key relationships with investors, and identifying new and potential investors in the company’s stock. 

 

This individual will be involved in the development and preparation of all communications and activities directed to the investment community including earnings announcements; telephone requests; Q&A’s; conferences; investor visits; one-on-one meetings; the annual report; shareholder meetings; a variety of presentations and the Investor Relations website.  He/she will partner with the Senior Vice President to develop appropriate messages for the investment community and to ensure that communications are disseminated promptly, efficiently, and in accordance with all regulations.  Market surveillance and investor targeting activities are also a key responsibility of this role.

 

Specific duties include:

 


  • Track, analyze and maintain in-depth understanding of analyst valuation models to ensure the company understands expectations and assumed value drivers. Serve as secondary point of contact between the investment community and the company.  Deepen and broaden relationships with the sell-side and buy-side.  Respond to all requests from the market in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Primary point person for the management, aggregation and analysis of inputs for quarterly earnings.   Partner closely with other key staff functions (e.g. FP&A, treasury, tax, legal, communications, external reporting) as well as with regional business units to ensure IR receives timely and relevant information.
  • Assist in the development of key messages for all investor communications including remarks and talking points for annual meetings, quarterly conference calls, press releases, filings, Q&A’s, industry conferences, one-on-one visits, IR website, etc.  Measure message penetration to ensure audiences are appropriately informed.   Assist in preparing management for financial community presentations and questions.
  • Oversee targeting process.   Work directly with company’s surveillance firm and SVP’s executive assistant to monitor investor base including tracking interim updates, 13F filings, and updating database to track all interactions.   In addition, work with the SVP to develop and execute marketing program including the prioritization of targets, determining conference participation and cadence of meetings with the market, measuring the ROI of targeting, and creating monthly reports to update CFO on status of shareholder base.    
  • Serve as IR point person in LA office, develop and maintain strong, collaborative working relationships with all key staff functions and across entire finance organization.   Assist in special project work at the request of FP&A, CFO and others. Work dynamically with Corporate Finance team and other key functions/business areas to ensure that IR function is adequately informed and supported.
  • Work closely with SVP IR, legal and HR on corporate governance including monitoring emerging issues, preparation of proxy, communications with ISS as well as proactive outreach to key investors on critical proxy issues.

 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have served as the second in command in IR, for a US $5 billion+ (revenues), multinational company or had a leadership position in a key financial role such as FP&A.  Experience in the E&C sector is strongly desired. AECOM is a highly diverse company, spanning a variety of end markets, services and geographies.  Successful candidates will have experience working in geographically and operationally diverse organizations, and have the necessary business acumen to distill, package and articulate a complex and compelling investment story.

 

Other relevant candidate profiles may include corporate finance executives and capital markets professionals with relevant sector knowledge, though some previous investor relations experience is preferred.  Future career growth opportunities may be discussed for someone who is highly successful in the IR role. 

 

The successful candidate will have/be:


  • Exceptional business acumen.  An in-depth understanding of the global capital markets, and a comprehensive and current knowledge of SEC regulations, reporting and disclosure requirements.

· For someone with IR experience - an established reputation with the investment community, based on credibility, consistency, visibility, access, and depth and breadth of knowledge.

· Clear and thorough grasp of the financial modeling used by investment professionals to value an organization’s performance.  Particular strength in utilizing metrics to help articulate the business drivers.

· A natural communicator.  Strong oral and written communication skills, in addition to strong presentation skills.

· A superior listener who has a proven ability to influence - persuasive, organized, and articulate.

· Excellent executive presence, strong interpersonal skills, superior intellect, and an outstanding ability to build relationships both internally and externally.  An active and effective leader.

· A self-starter who can work autonomously, while also being an energetic, efficient, and resourceful team player.

    EDUCATION

    Bachelor’s degree required; prefer MBA, CFA.
