ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Director of Special Events is responsible for planning, coordinating and producing all fundraising and cultivation events for the Long Island Chapter.    This includes but is not limited to annual galas and golf benefits, donor cultivation receptions, board meetings and trips and tours.  The Director of Special Events must possess excellent interpersonal, writing and speaking skills, and have a thorough knowledge of special event production.

The Director of Special Events will represent The Nature Conservancy on frequent occasions, and will work closely with the board of trustees, major donors, volunteers and vendors, in addition to the media, to achieve the Conservancy’s goals. The Director of Special Events is a member of the Philanthropy team, and works closely with chapter program staff.  She/he is supervised by the Director of Philanthropy. 

 
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years related work experience or equivalent combination.
  • Experience, coursework, or other training in event, fundraising principles & practices.
  • Experience managing multiple projects.
  • Experience using Word, Excel and MS Office the Internet.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of  related work experience in special event production. 
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and produce special events. Ability to use resources (people, funding and material) effectively and efficiently.
  • Experience in budgeting, tracking expenses and maintaining accurate records as it relates to special event production.
  • Solid knowledge of Word, Excel, and MS Office, along with ability to navigate and use the Internet.
  • Successful experience in managing multiple projects and developing strategies.
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles & practices, preferably in a non-profit environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of people, including volunteers and donors, to accomplish the Conservancy’s goals.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure with flexibility; willingness to work occasional weekends and evenings.
  • Assist in the cultivation of corporate, foundation and individual members as necessary, through events as well as meetings.
