Our SCADA Controls System Programmer careers provide you with an opportunity to work on exciting municipal and industrial projects. Our SCADA services group offers a comprehensive suite of products and services. We are a full service provider of Facility Automation services that span the full life cycle of SCADA implementation, from conceptual planning, design, and configuration, through installation, testing, start-up, and post commissioning services.

Each day, you will be an important part of the team as you complete a variety of technical tasks in the design, programming and support of SCADA systems for water / wastewater treatment facilities. You should be able to think on your feet, work with minimal supervision, both independently and in a team environment, and multi-task effectively. Our work is frequently complex, proprietary, and requires strong technical skills as well as excellent communication skills. You should be a self-motivated professional with five years of PLC and HMI Programming experience, possess an Associate's degree in Electrical, or Instrumentation & Automation Technology, and have a desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each new SCADA project.

Our SCADA Controls System Programmers:

  • Provide programming support for water and wastewater clients in our local office, at client sites, and other CH2M HILL offices in the Southeast region.
  • Utilize and develop HMI and PLC database configuration, HMI graphic development, and PLC control narrative code implementation.
  • Have strong project management experience and are capable of leading small teams of up to four programming staff.
  • Work as part of a team and independently to evaluate, select and apply standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Conduct site testing, and make recommendations for systems' design, upgrade, and improvement.
  • Assist senior design engineers as needed on large complex projects.
  • Design and troubleshoot SCADA networks and radio telemetry networks.
  • Display strong communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with multiple deadlines.
  • Travel as needed for projects to support design, implementation, start-up and maintenance of projects.
  • Select and troubleshoot field process instruments.
  • Maintain a mindset of health & safety in all aspects of project execution, office and personal environments.

Additional Information:

Basic Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Electrical/Electronics, Instrumentation, Automation or Information Technology
  • 5 years experience in programming major brands of PLC and HMI products for water treatment facilities and/or industrial type facilities
  • Proficient with MS Word, MS Excel
  • Team player, ability to work independently
  • Able to travel to client sites and support control system start-ups, typical travel expectation is 30% but may require up to 100% to support a field assignment or system startup
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to convey complex technical information in user friendly terms to a diverse audience

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the basic qualifications the following are highly desired:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Information Technology
  • 8 years experience in Water or Wastewater process automation
  • 8 years experience with Allen Bradley, SIEMENS, GE, or Modicon PLC programming
  • 8 years experience with Allen Bradley, SIEMENS, GE, or Wonderware HMI programming
  • 8 years experience with network and communication devices (Switches, Routers, etc)
  • Field start-up experience
  • Project management experience with small teams of up to four programming staff
  • Instrumentation selection and design
  • Instrumentation installation, calibration, and troubleshooting
  • SCADA system design experience
  • I&C or Electrical design experience
  • I&C and SCADA control panel design, fabrication and testing experience
  • Radio telemetry design and start-up experience
  • Configuration, programming and trouble shooting of network devices (Layer 2 and 3) for LAN's and WAN's consists of both Copper and Fiber networks.
  • SCADA Master Planning
