Field Specialist – Prudhoe Bay, Alaska

The challenge? Helping ensure the supply of our world's oil and gas. At CH2M HILL, we deliver solutions that span the entire breadth of the oil industry. Our Field Specialist job will provide you with the opportunity to work on exciting, large scale oil and gas projects in the Anchorage Fab Shop. Each day, you will be an important team leader as you participate in the coordination, execution, and supervision of the technical aspects of all construction disciplines including structural, architectural, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, and coatings. You should be a self motivated, detail oriented professional with 5 years of engineering or construction experience on industrial construction projects, and a Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Prior experience working on the North Slope is preferred.

Our Field Specialists:

  • Assist with estimating, planning, scheduling, and selecting construction methods for various disciplines
  • Are responsible for progress appraisal and first line quality control
  • Work to eliminate any known hazards associated with the work that may adversely affect the safety or health of employees or the environment
  • Maintain first level quality assurance to confirm that the installation of all work is in accordance with the plans, specifications, and industry standards
  • Organize the accumulation of assigned discipline data for the final project turnover and report
  • Ensure that tests and inspections are performed, witnessed, and documented in accordance with the approved procedures
  • Establish and maintain liaison with the discipline design engineering staff, whether third party or in-house
  • Review and interpret design drawings and specifications to ensure current revision level, and correct technical execution of the work
  • Provide schedule and progress appraisal data to the Project Manager
  • Provide and coordinate resolution for technical engineering problems
  • Specify materials for procurement and monitor material procurement process to ensure timeliness to support scheduled construction
  • Analyze force distributions and design rigging arrangements for complicated lifts with manual rigging and heavy lift cranes
  • Compile detailed scopes of work for subcontractors
  • Ensure that proper Document Control is maintained to both CH2M HILL and client standards
  • Have a thorough understanding of individual contract terms and implement Change Management accordingly
  • Work closely, support, and collaborate with discipline Superintendents to accomplish all of the specific responsibilities shown above
  • Assist in the generation of weekly project status reports for distribution to CH2M HILL and the Client
  • May be required to speak on CH2M HILL behalf in large meeting formats of 15 or more people
  • Attend training sessions, seminars, and appropriate educational classes as required by department

Additional Information: Relocation assistance to Alaska is not provided. CH2M HILL will not sponsor an employment visa (e.g., H-1B visa, etc) to fill this position.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering or related field, or equivalent additional 4 years of experience in project management and engineering
  • Five (5) years of engineering and construction experience with medium to large industrial construction projects
  • Possess basic knowledge of engineering, project management, and organizational practices
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
  • Strong background in industrial fabrication and construction in at least one of the following disciplines; structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, or instrumentation, and the desire to become proficient in others
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Functional experience with Microsoft office applications, emphasis on Excel capabilities
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to be insured for driving company vehicles (applicants must provide a five year DMV record at the time of application)

  • Knowledge of proper rigging practices and heavy lift mobile crane use
