Director, Strategic Initiatives



The Director, Strategic Initiatives will help advance the agenda of executive leadership by driving critical initiatives.   This position will report to the President’s Chief of Staff and will drive a variety of 1-2 initiatives at any given time which are of strategic importance to AECOM.   This position requires the acumen to handle complex situations, balance multiple responsibilities and influence key stakeholders.    The position is based at AECOM’s corporate headquarters in downtown Los Angeles and may require some travel.  

Responsibilities


The Director, Strategic Initiatives will:


  • Drive a variety of initiatives (generally 1-2 at a time) to advance the agenda of executive leadership and AECOM’s goals.   Examples include initiatives related to new business development, growing existing business areas, developing content and perspectives for strategic meetings, and other efforts related to the continuous improvement of internal processes at AECOM
  • Work with the Chief of Staff to establish, monitor and update priorities for a defined period (quarterly, fiscal year or rolling 12-months), reassessing status on a regular basis, and adjusting plans as necessary
  • Manage and coordinate executive calendars and activities, including calls, meetings, conferences, presentations and communications.  
  • Oversee and/or develop briefing materials (biographies, presentations, reports, scripts, etc.) for key meetings and other events with internal and external parties including senior level AECOM in-country, operational and corporate managers, Finance, Investor Relations, Communications, M&A, AECOM Board related functions, and government officials, senior business partners and clientele
  • Collaborate with and achieve actionable results through others, build strong and sustainable relationships and interact within all levels of the organization. Establish excellent working relationships with key stakeholders, including the executive team
  • Understand the structure of the organization to interact with internal partners; manage the flow of information and contacts in/out of the organization based on a deep and strategic knowledge of the AECOM’s priorities
  • Partner with the Executive Assistants to address administrative issues
  • Rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of initiative, creativity and latitude is expected

This career opportunity is ideally suited for a professional with 10-20 years of experience who has strong business acumen, exceptional organizational skills and desire to provide executive-level support to a large, diverse and publicly traded organization.

Experience and Skills: 

· 10+ years total work experience 

· 3+ years direct team and 3+ years direct project managerial experience 

· 5+ years client or executive stakeholder interfacing role 

· Prior experience in some of AECOM’s industry/end markets a plus, e.g. E&C

· Prior management consulting or chief of staff experience a plus 

· Prior operational experience in a Fortune 500 company a plus

· Experienced in market research and analysis, strategic planning, financial analysis and reporting, project/program management and vendor management 

· Proven experience in driving enterprise wide initiatives with evidenced results 

· Track record of promotions and/or increased responsibility 

· Highly comfortable with MSOffice and corporate financial reporting systems

· Relevant post graduate degree highly preferred
