Minimum Requirements: • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering field • Minimum four years of experience as a Transportation Engineer • Master's degree in engineering may substitute for one year of experience • Requires experience with Highway Capacity Software (HCS), Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM and CORSIM • Excellent written and oral communication skills • Strong analytical and problem solving abilities • Valid driver's license
Skills Utilized/Developed: • Skilled traffic operations modeler with proven project experience • Self-starter who is able to set priorities, communicate well and who can perform as a technical specialist • Ability to independently evaluate, select and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications • Ability to carry out complex assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures • Good written and oral communication skills are required to successfully interact with the client, other consultants and URS staff • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test Job Description: URS Corporation is recruiting for a Transportation Engineer to provide engineering consulting services in Tallahassee, Florida. This position's primary focus is on traffic analyses and forecasts related to existing and future roadway facilities.
Working on a team of engineers, planners, and GIS staff, the position will: • Review signal timing plans and design • Review roadway design plans for operational issues • Model traffic operations in VISSIM and CORSIM • Participate in transportation planning assignments including micro-simulation, travel demand forecasting, corridor studies, safety studies, traffic studies and interchange justification/modification reports • Convert travel demand modeling results to Design Hour Volumes (DHV) and turning movements for analysis • Translate traffic engineering and travel demand modeling concepts and analysis results for preparation of graphics by others • Prepare Traffic Technical Memorandums in support of Project Development and Environment (PD&E) studies • Prepare Equivalent Single Axle Loads (ESAL) for design projects • Collect traffic data in the field when needed (signal timing, queuing, speed and delay) • Coordinate with other technical disciplines including conceptual design, traffic operations, and right of way The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to those listed above.
