Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in civil or structural engineering
• Requires Maryland and/or Virginia Professional Engineers license or ability to obtain within 1 year
• Requires 20 years of experience working in railroad and transit engineering including the development of design plans for railroad improvements and ancillary structures
• Experience working with the Federal Railroad Administration, VA and MD transit agencies and Class I railroads
• Knowledge of CAD, Microsoft Office programs
• Ability to present qualifications and experience in both written and oral presentations
• Ability to work with potential clients to understand needs and develop scopes and budgets
• Ability to direct the efforts of junior engineering staff
• Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test


Job Description:

The Engineering and Infrastructure Division of URS is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Senior Rail Transit Engineer for immediate employment in the Hunt Valley office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in railroad and transit engineering specific to the development of urban passenger rail systems. URS is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects. The incumbent can look forward to projects including planning, design and implementation of a variety of urban rail systems including streetcar, light rail transit and commuter rail.

Responsibilities will include concept development of alternative designs that respond to client needs, concept and preliminary design of rail improvements and ancillary rail transit facilities, working with clients to identify needs and develop scopes and budgets, managing project development tasks to meet project objectives within the established scope and budget, directing the efforts of junior engineers and technicians, preparation of plans and reports that respond to client needs, presentation of project results to various public and private clients and agencies including the public, coordinate design efforts with regulatory agencies and project stakeholders. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed above.
