Job Description:

The Engineering Division of URS is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Mining Lead for immediate employment in the Seattle office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in Geotechnical Engineering, specific to the Mining Industry. URS is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects. The incumbent can look forward to projects including exploration, permitting, development, construction, mining and processing operations, closure, remediation and reclamation at new and existing mining operations throughout North America.

URS is currently embarking on a transformational growth of mining services in the Pacific Northwest where the mining industry is experiencing a high level of exploration and development. A key component of this growth objective is the development of a mining practice in Washington, Oregon, northern Idaho and western Montana that will be an expansion of the current mining practice in the area and become comparable to URS mining practices in the Southwest and Mountain States and in Australia. This would be achieved by organic growth and acquisition in Alaska and Western Canada, and interaction with the firm's other mining professionals. The preferred location for the mining leader is our Seattle office. An alternate location is our Spokane office which is the headquarters of some mining companies and is near northern Idaho mines. .

This is an opportunity to join a dynamic and growing URS Northwest Mining Business Line and be responsible for leading our Washington, Oregon, northern Idaho and western Montana mining practice. The position will help define and lead mining growth strategies, and align the operations of multiple offices under a common plan. A key objective of our Washington, Oregon, northern Idaho and western Montana Initiative is to establish a mining presence in these states similar to our presence in the Southwest and Mountain States. Key elements of this objective are to achieve a major "step change" in our current mining market position with a goal to achieve a top-3 mining position in the Northwest by 2015.

The URS Northwest growth plan is a top corporate initiative with mining as a key element. The selected candidate will enjoy full support of corporate and regional resources through a committed team environment. He/she will report to the Seattle Operations Engineering Manager and will develop a close working relationship with our Northwest Region Mining Business Line, and Pacific Group Mining Business Line Leaders, and will develop working relationships with URS Corporate Global Mining Leaders, and other Mining Operations and Business Line Directors, Managers, and Technical and Marketing Staff. It will be important to leverage these relationships to expand new business opportunities, sell a full range of services, and mobilize company resources to effect the desired growth.

Travel will be required to mine and mineral properties, some of which will be remote and could be overseas. URS enforces a strict international travel policy by only allowing employees to travel to "safe" countries for existing clients. Travel could be occasionally required on short notice because of the consulting nature of providing services to mining clients and responding rapidly to needs that may arise as result of natural disasters or operation mishaps. However, such travel can be to scenically rewarding locations of unparalleled beauty worldwide that are typically not seen by touring public.
