Minimum Requirements:

The minimum qualifications for this position include:
• Two year degree in safety, health, industrial hygiene, or related field.
• Minimum three years of project work experience in safety related field.
• Knowledge of federal health, safety and environment (HSE) regulations and environmental health practices.
• OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training
• Must successfully complete a medical examination designed to evaluate ability to work on hazardous waste sites as defined by OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120.
• Enrollment in a medical surveillance program requiring initial and annual medical exams, and periodic and random drug testing.
• Capable of functioning with spreadsheet, word processing, and standard MS Office software.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills required.
• Able to effectively communicate to staff, management, and client at various levels.
• Candidate should be familiar with field instrumentation and equipment.
• Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.

The Dow Business Unit within URS is actively seeking a creative, highly talented HSE Technician for immediate staff level employment in the Midland, MI office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in Health and Safety with experience in construction safety, general plant safety, industrial hygiene, or equivalent. The incumbent can look forward to assisting managing and implementing the URS DBU Remediation HSE program to ensure compliance with URS and client expectations, and OSHA requirements.
Candidate will be responsible for providing technical assistance to office and field operations to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and/or Company HSE policies and procedures. Work sites include chemical plants, and inactive former manufacturing facilities.
Duties under the direction of the HSE Manager will include the following:
• Interface with client representatives at various meetings and other events;
• Completion of field safety observations and recordkeeping;
• Maintaining training matrices;
• Completing safety program self-assessments and reporting;
• Maintaining safety files;
• Preparation of Safe Work Plans, Health and Safety Plans, Job Safety Analyses;
• Initiation and evaluation of submitted Subcontractor H&S pre-qualification packages;
• Assist in maintaining and coordinating maintenance of field monitoring equipment;
• Coordinate and track client training requirements through client's training programs;
• Assisting with and reporting of employee qualitative and quantitative exposure assessments (QEAs);
• Participate in the Remediation Group Safety Action Committee (SAC);
• Participate in incident/injury root cause investigations (RCIs);
• Assist in developing, revising and tracking procedures and policies;
• May be required to work in an environment with chemical and other hazards;
• Performs assignments designed to develop professional knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard scientific techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out tasks.
