Minimum Requirements: • High school diploma or equivalent. • 10 years of combined construction inspection experience including reinforced concrete, structural steel erection, welding for public works projects that include facilities and transit infrastructure construction projects. • Extensive knowledge of construction practices, physical characteristics and properties of trackwork, roadway, structures, welding procedures, drainage and utility systems construction materials, and the approved methods and equipment used in making physical tests of construction materials and quality of work. • Ability to work independently and perform duties in the field and construction field office. • Ability to effectively make decisions concerning work in progress and solving field and office problems. • A strong adherence to safety when working on and around operating railroads. • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite). • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills. • Valid Driver's License. • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test. Job Description: Under the direction of the Resident Engineer assume the following functional responsibilities and possess experience in all of these areas: 1. Perform quality assurance inspections to achieve compliance with contract plans and specifications on all phases of trackwork, roadway, station and structures construction including grading, paving, SWPP, drainage, reinforced concrete, structural steel and utility systems construction. 2. Checking grades and alignment. 3. Maintain an awareness of safety and health requirements and assuring compliance of applicable regulations and contract provisions for the protection of the public and construction personnel. 4. Prepare detailed daily inspection reports and photographs. 5. Perform quantity calculations and measurement of contract unit price bid items for progress pay estimates and keep daily records of same. 6. Assist in the preparation of final As-Built plans. 7. Keep the Resident Engineer informed of conditions which could result in contract change orders and/or delays and assist in proactively resolving these situations.
