Job Description: 
Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent. 10 years of highway and bridge construction inspection experience with 5 years on Caltrans Highway/Bridge projects.

Extensive knowledge of construction practices, physical characteristics and properties of roadway, structures, drainage and utility systems construction materials, and the approved methods and equipment used in making physical tests of construction materials. Ability to work independently and perform duties in the construction field office. Ability to effectively make decisions concerning work in progress and solving field and office problems. Proficient in the use of computer application programs Word, Excel and Outlook.

Must obtain negative result on drug screen performed in accordance with URS drug testing policy. Must have a valid driver's license.


Job Description:

Under the direction of the Resident Engineer assume the following functional responsibilities and possess experience in all of these areas:
a) Perform quality assurance inspections to achieve compliance with contract plans and specifications on all phases of highway and bridge construction, such as paving, structures, striping, grading, SWPP, drainage, sewer, water, utility relocations, electrical installation, sign installation and landscaping items.
b) Checking grades and alignment.
c) Inspecting and approving traffic control systems including lane closures in accordance with Caltrans standards and requirements.
d) Maintain an awareness of safety and health requirements and assuring compliance of applicable regulations and contract provisions for the protection of the public and construction project personnel.
e) Prepare detailed daily inspection reports and photographs.
f) Perform quantity calculations and measurement for progress pay estimates and keep daily records.
g) Perform calculations and measurement of contract unit price bid items.
h) Assist in the preparation of final As-Built plans.
i) Maintain continuous communication with the Resident Engineer and other field personnel and staff.
j) Keep the Resident Engineer informed of conditions which could result in contract change orders and/or delays and assist in proactively resolving these situations.
