The challenge? Helping our communities stay safely on the move. This position provides pursuit leadership for client opportunities. The Sales Manager leads in developing and implementing positioning and persuasion strategies that further the goals of the business group's strategic plan.

The Transportation Sales Manager:
  • Manages large, and often strategic/major, sales efforts.
  • Develops winning proposals for the firm, serving as "project manager" for assigned proposal activities.
  • Plans and oversees the daily work of the pursuit team, and assigns tasks and establishes deadlines.
  • Working with sales leadership team, provides input to teaming partner and subcontractor selection.
  • Provides BD technical or functional guidance and leadership to others.
  • Possesses knowledge of clients, competitor, and industry trends within assigned business group.
  • Mentors and coaches all levels of group staff. Possesses strong team and consensus building skills.
  • Ensures client satisfaction.
  • Leads small to medium business group pursuits and assists on large pursuit efforts. Manages traditional regional pursuits.
  • Is actively building an understanding of industry contracting mechanisms.
  • Has the ability to build, manage, positively motivate, and work within high-performance technical and sales teams.
  • Develops SOQs, proposals, and presentations (the persuasion phase) in concert with the procurement team, to ensure client-focused proposals and presentations that meet RFP requirements and are consistent with the sales strategy.
  • Manages activities for pursuits including positioning where appropriate.
  • Provides input and support for business developmental planning and strategy development, including client development strategies and market segment initiatives.
  • Ability to train others, be a team player, and provide good customer service.
  • Participates on team that wins quality revenue-generating work.
  • Understands and applies opportunity assessment and development process and proposal and conversion process.
  • Supports lead sales manager in integrating pursuit strategy/win themes. May lead the integration of the pursuit strategy/win themes on large and major/strategic efforts.
  • Leads the proposal process for large and often major/strategic proposals including compliance, schedule, and budget. Proactively identifies and communicates potential issues/variances.
  • Directs and integrates graphic design, document publishing, production staff, and proposal professionals. May plan and oversee the daily work of small BD support group.
  • Provides training, guidance, and mentorship to others. May monitor group budget and help set goals for staff.
  • Follows enterprise health and safety policies and procedures, and escalates issues.
  • Builds and maintains internal client network within business group and/or division.
  • Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Possesses effective listening skills.
  • Leads communications with graphic design, document publishing, and production staff, including proposal professionals.
  • Understands core company organization and services for a specific business and/or division.
  • Populates and uses appropriate BD tools. Ensures staff is appropriately trained and uses tools.
  • Escalates concerns to appropriate manager.
  • Implements company image/brand on sales efforts.
  • Generates solutions based on the analysis of a variety of established sources.
  • Applies lessons learned to future efforts.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of and ability to perform (at a basic level) contributing skills (including document publishing, graphic design, and reprographic standards) supporting identification of best practices.
  • Proactively identifies ways to improve processes and tools.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS or BA degree
  • Knowledge of industry clients and competitors.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills .
  • Ability to build, manage, positively motivate, and work within high-performance technical and sales teams.
  • Ability to facilitate proposal planning, strategy, and review sessions.
  • Ability to manage SOQ, proposal, and presentation document development to adhere to established themes.
  • Knowledge of production processes in order to support production staff in timely delivery of sales products.
  • Ability to work within deadlines and budgets.
  • Proficiency in all proposal and presentation production software.

Degree Required

Bachelors or 4 Year Degree
