Minimum Requirements:
The minimum qualifications for this position include:
• Bachelors in civil or electrical engineering or a related field
• Minimum five years of experience in intelligent transportation systems (ITS) planning, design, and implementation for freeway and arterial networks
• Master's degree in related engineering discipline can substitute for up to two years of work experience
• PhD degree in related engineering discipline can substitute for up to three years of experience
• Registration and designation as a Professional Engineer (PE) is required
• Familiarity with local, regional, and statewide ITS architectures
• Strong design and computer skills, enjoy self-directed learning, have an enthusiastic and energetic attitude towards solving engineering problems, and take pride in their role in producing high quality deliverables for clients
• Valid driver's license required
• Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test
Job Description:
URS is seeking a highly motivated, team orientated, and productive engineer to work with an outstanding group of engineers and technicians.
Position Description:
• Application of technical professional expertise in ITS and traffic engineering technology as it relates to planning, engineering, design, and operational needs of ITS systems (both freeway and arterial networks)
• Use of extensive ITS experience to design and plan various ITS deployments
• Application of broad knowledge of leading-edge ITS and telecommunications technologies for planning, engineering, and operations of ITS for a variety of clients ranging from Virginia cities to VDOT at the district, regional, and statewide level
• Responsible for completing ITS projects, developing complete PS&E documents for ITS projects, conducting traffic studies, and preparing reports
• Lead design of ITS projects based on VDOT Standards and Specifications
• Collaborate in the design and development of ITS concepts including: requirements analysis; technology review and selection; and development of operational concepts, specifications, testing, and commissioning
