Job Description: 
Minimum Requirements:

Associate's degree or completion of technical trade school courses, or equivalent experience.

Minimum eight years of experience in mechanical piping and/or pipeline design and drafting. Bachelor's degree can substitute for four years of experience. Or AA in disciplinary field can substitute for two years of experience. Or equivalent qualifying experience.

Experience in preparation of PFD's and P&ID's.

Experience in detailed design of piping system, pipeline, meter station design, compressor stations and pump stations.

Experience in the use of various 3D design programs, including AutoCad and MicroStation.

Must have basic knowledge of codes and standards applicable to mechanical piping systems and the pipe line industry.

Knowledge of cost estimating, able to perform material take-offs.

Ability to work as a team member and effectively direct junior designers.

Ability to check design work prepared by junior designers.

Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.


Job Description:

The Environmental & Infrastructure Group of URS is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Senior Mechanical Designer for immediate employment in our Chicago, IL office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in the design of new piping/pipeline systems as well as modification and upgraded piping systems. URS is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects. The incumbent can look forward to projects including major utility piping systems as well as pipeline installations, additions and modification to valve stations and pumping stations and pipeline upgrade projects.
Incumbent Responsibilities:
• Creation and maintenance of labor estimates and schedules for assigned portions of projects.

• Manage junior and staff level designers.

• Coordinate design staff in the preparation of design documents.

• Assist engineering in the design of piping system and pump and compressor stations.

• Preparation of physical piping drawings, P&ID's and PFD's

• Preparation of piping design drawings using various 3D piping design software programs.
