Job Description:  CH2M HILL Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations Supervisor Careers - Fort Irwin, CA

The challenge? Providing exceptional support for engineering and construction services to government and military clients through delivery of safe, reliable and competitive operations and maintenance services that focus on enhancing the life-cycle and performance output of our clients' assets. Our Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations Supervisor position will provide you with an opportunity to operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs to a wastewater treatment plant and/or conveyance system. Each day, you will be a vital part of our operations contract and take responsibility for the safety and success of this project. You should have a Grade IV Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification, at least 7 years of experience and have the desire to grow personally and professionally with each new project.

Our Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations Supervisors Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Supervises the operation, repair and maintenance of a 2 MGD advanced wastewater treatment plant consisting of headworks, oxidation ditch, secondary clarifiers, filtration, disinfection and recycled water operations.
  • Performs process control and other calculations necessary for the orderly operations of the treatment facilities.
  • Diagnoses operating problems and create and supervise corrective measures.
  • Supervise and give instructions and assignments to assigned employees.
  • Prepares work schedules subject to approval of Associate Project Manager.
  • Continuously monitors employee performance for assigned employees, including performing employee evaluations and disciplinary actions.
  • Leads the safety program for the areas where responsible and the employees assigned.
  • Uses computer applications such as Microsoft Office applications to provide effective communications, and reports to the Project, clients and regulators.
  • Reads gauges and meters, starts and stops equipment, operates valves to route and control flow, makes process control adjustments, determines and sets proper chemical dosage and flow rates, and operates PLCs and SCADA systems.
  • Schedules, collects samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analyses.
  • Schedules recycled water operations in accordance with facility loadings, agronomic requirements, and the operating permit. Inspects and monitors recycled water irrigation sites.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work. Complies and reports non-compliance of the discharge order.
  • Complies with Project Policies and Procedures.
  • Prepares all required reports and submits them as scheduled and maintains complete recordkeeping procedures in accordance with CH2M HILL procedures and policies.
  • Inspects plants to determine efficiency of operations, cleanliness, and maintenance activities.
  • Processes and schedules offsite hauling of biosolids in accordance with plant schedules and regulatory requirements.
  • Possesses the ability to use computer applications for maintenance of operations data from facilities, including orderly repairs and the maintenance of all assigned facilities.
  • Provides coverage for other managers and supervisors in their absence, as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Working Conditions:
The work area can involve exposure to inclement weather, loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical shock and vibration, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, toxic and explosive gases, infection and blood-borne pathogens. Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, twist and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to work on equipment, have vision sufficient to service equipment, and have hearing in the normal range with or without correction. During a shift must be able to transport self across the facility, ascend and descend stair steps, lift objects up to 50 pounds from floor level to waist height, use various tools and equipment; wear and use appropriate safety equipment.

Basic Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 7-10 years experience in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Minimum California Grade IV Wastewater Operator certification (active).
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, data management systems and be able to operate plant PLCs and SCADA systems.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates degree or higher in engineering or in physical, chemical or environmental science.
  • Familiarity of the principles and practices of wastewater treatment plant opera­tions; operating principles of valves, pumps, and motors; prin­ciples and methods of bacteriological and chemical sewage analyses; effects and problems of industrial waste in wastewater treat­ment processes.
  • Knowledge of computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, data management systems (Op10) and be able to operate plant PLC's and SCADA systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the principles of supervision and training; principles of budget preparation and expenditure control; and safe work practices.
