Minimum Requirements:

• Minimum B.S. in Civil Engineering or related specialty
• North Carolina Registered (or ability to obtain registration through reciprocity within 6 months) Civil and Geotechnical Engineer
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Minimum 15 years of relevant experience including work on large and complex geotechnical projects including dams, water resources and power facilities
• Geotechnical investigation and geotechnical instrumentation expertise
• Construction phase observation and testing and geotechnical laboratory testing experience
• Report preparation and project management experience
• Experience interacting with North Carolina Division of Safety of Dams and US national dam safety (e.g., TVA, USACE, Reclamation, USFWS, NRCS), water, or power agencies.
• Experience supervising and mentoring junior staff
• Direct client contact and business development/proposal preparation experience
• Familiar with government, client, and industry local codes, regulations, and standards governing design and construction projects
• Knowledge of applicable health and safety requirements and environmental concerns
• Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test


Job Description:

The Infrastructure and Environment Division of URS is actively seeking a creative, highly talented and motivated Senior Civil/Geotechnical Engineer with excellent communication and organizational skills for immediate employment in the North Carolina office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in civil/geotechnical engineering for dams, water resources and power projects, with the ability to expand into providing a wide range of engineering and project management services for large and complex civil and geotechnical projects to help grow our dams, water, and power markets in the southeastern US.

The work will include: managing multi-disciplinary projects and programs; providing senior technical leadership within the department; and interacting with regulatory agencies in the private-sector, public-sector, and government agencies; interacting with clients on existing and new projects; and supporting business development. Types of facilities include: dams, levees, canals, tunnels, power plant facilities, wastewater treatment plants, and others. URS is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
• Reviews regulations and standards necessary to conduct technical studies and carry out project design and permitting work
• Directs and conducts field data acquisition
• Prepares and/or peer reviews designs, specifications, and construction documents
• Plans, supervises, and directs site investigations and surveys
• Applies engineering principles to develop effective solutions
• Completes planning and evaluation studies.
• Evaluates feasibility of projects based on analysis of collected data, applying knowledge and techniques of engineering
• Prepares or directs preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, and designs for project
• Inspects or supervises inspection of construction site to monitor progress and assesses conformance to engineering plans, specifications, and construction standards
• Uses or supervises use of computer-assisted engineering and design software, including computer simulation models to prepare engineering and design analysis and documents
• Applies QA/QC requirements to own work and work of project team
